Poor Peter Bogdanovich. When was the last time the well-respected filmmaker made a narrative feature that remotely moved the needle (let's not include the good doc, "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Runnin' Down a Dream")? "Cat's Meow" in 2001, which wasn't very good? And before that, "Mask" in 1985? The well-liked filmmaker, actor and cinephile has had a pretty rough go of it in Hollywood (an unimpeachable beginning, a quick fall from grace), but perhaps his upcoming picture will be a late-era comeback?

It's an underrated little gem, but the director of "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story," starring Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller, is back. Truthfully, Rawson Marshall Thurber didn't really go anywhere, but 2008's indie “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh” wasn’t terribly well received. He's now back in studio comedy mode -- studio action comedy mode, to be specific -- with "We're The Millers." Starring Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts, Nick Offerman, Kathryn Hahn, Will Poulter, and Ed Helms, Thurber's latest has a bevy of strong comedic talent and centers on a veteran pot dealer (Sudeikis) who creates a fake family as part of his plan to move a huge shipment of weed into the U.S. from Mexico.

These days, Brad Bird is one of the most sought after directors around. He helmed "The Incredibles" for Pixar, still one of the company's best and biggest hits, and took over troubled project "Ratatouille" at the last minute, helping turn it into another classic, and another global hit. And last year, he made his live-action debut with the thrilling "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol," which became the biggest film of Tom Cruise's career, and will follow it up in the near future with the Damon Lindelof-penned sci-fi "1952."

Mark Duplass has had busy couple of years, directing and writing three films with his brother, and starring in a number of projects including the raunchy FX comedy, “The League,” and in the upcoming sci-fi tinged indie dramedy “Safety Not Guaranteed” with Aubrey Plaza. He’s following up that role with one in another indie film with a sci-fi element, “Convention,” and he’s going to be acting opposite some pretty big names.

Here's a project that has been stuck in development hell, that we kind of figured was left for dead. In various stages of development for nearly a decade, "We're The Millers" saw folks like directors John Morris and Sean Anders, and actors Will Arnett and Steve Buscemi go through the revolving door. Last summer reports surfaced that Jason Bateman would take over the lead role, but now it looks like another casting change up is in the works.

While it's their first collaboration, one would be completely excused if they believed writer/director David Wain ('Wainy Days," "Stella," "Role Models") and Judd Apatow ("Knocked Up," etc.) had been working together for years. Clearly kin-like comedic souls or brothers from another mother, Wain and Apatow have been drinking from the same sweet and sour pool for some time, "Role Models" especially feels like an Apatow production.

Jennifer Aniston is set to star in "Switch." No, this isn't 2010 and Aniston won't be reuniting with Jason Bateman's seed and a turkey baster. This is something entirely different. In fact, this is "Switch," based on Elmore Leonard's novel of the same name and is the prequel to the novel "Rum Punch," which Quentin Tarantino turned into "Jackie Brown." Are you still with us? Good, let's carry on.

The screen career of Jennifer Aniston has been a frustrating one. She's been in hits and misses, critically acclaimed projects like "The Good Girl" and critically reviled ones like "Just Go With It," but she's arguably never quite found the role that will let her escape from the shadow of Rachel on "Friends." Maybe the Judd Apatow-produced comedy "Wanderlust," which opens next week will be that film, but in the meantime, Aniston's teaming up with a fast-rising British writer-director for another project.

We're heading towards a veritable cluster-fuck of foul-mouthed comedies this summer, with "Bridesmaids" already picking up good buzz from SXSW, and "The Hangover 2" following swiftly behind, with "The Change-Up," "30 Minutes or Less," "Friends With Benefits" and "Bad Teacher" bringing up the rear. We've seen glimpses of most of these now, but there's one more in the pack as well, and it might actually be the most promising of them all.

'Monster' Director Patty Jenkins Also On Board, One More Name To Be AnnouncedAs we've elaborated on at length in the past, omnibus films are a mixed bag at best. It's just hard to take a diverse array of talent and cram it into one coherent vision, but damn if Hollywood just won't stop trying.
