It may have been a bittersweet moment for Jennifer Garner watching “Argo” win Best Picture at the Oscars. Of course, she was probably proud of her hubby, but it must be tough watching Ben Affleck receive accolades on accolades when her own career has been effectively praise-free since “Juno.” From “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,” “Arthur,” and “Butter,” to her most recent “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” we were starting to question her taste. But she might finally have a hit on her hands, as Variety reports that she is in negotiations to star in Black List topper “Draft Day” with Kevin Costner.

A political satire set in the competitive world of butter-carving at the Iowa State Fair, the script for "Butter" was so ballyhooed and praised that it wound up on The Black List, the annual underground buzz list of unproduced screenplays based on a straw poll of agents, development executives and insiders. (As a side note, we must say that The Black List is only interesting as a barometer of quality insofar as you trust agents, development executives and insiders to be able to tell good from bad, which much of Hollywood's output suggests is not actually the case.)

Lakeshore Records will release the original soundtrack to the Weinstein Company comedy "Butter," starring Jennifer Garner, Ty Burrell, Olivia Wilde, Rob Corddry, Ashley Greene, Alicia Silverstone and Hugh Jackman, digitally on October 9th. The synopsis? When her husband (Ty Burrell) is unceremoniously asked to step down after taking first prize for fifteen years as the master Butter Carver at the Iowa State Fair, the limelight-seeking, ultra-competitive Laura Pickler (Garner) takes on a 12-year-old, African-American (Yara Shahidi) butter sculpting prodigy in a butter carving contest of epic proportions.

Around this time last year, "Butter," directed by Jim Field Smith from a Black List-approved screenplay by Jason Micallef, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival to generally warm reviews. The film, which takes place in the highly specific world of professional butter carving (not that cliché again) and stars Jennifer Garner and Hugh Jackman, is finally slated to begin its theatrical rollout very soon. In anticipation of said release, a brand new clip has hit the Internet, courtesy of the exclamation-point-heavy Entertainment Tonight site. And it features Hugh Jackman being goofy and Southern. So, of course, we love it.

Even though the politically minded Weinstein Company comedy "Butter" didn't exactly light up the film festival circuit last year, this writer, for one, is still mildly intrigued. A political satire using a butter sculpting competition in Iowa to lampoon the 2008 political race between Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama, a lot of critics have compared Jennifer Garner's uptight character in the film to House of Representatives Republican Michelle Bachman, and that should at least be worthy of some laughs, no?

Part of the fun of the prestigious Telluride Film Festival is its secret lineup that's only revealed at the last minute, as only yesterday, did organizers reveal the slate of programming -- less than 24 hours before the event kicked off today. As longtime attendees know, there are usually one or two secret or surprise screenings revealed over the weekend, and THR reports that "Butter," starring Jennifer Garner, will most likely get the open slot on Saturday night at the same time as the George Clooney retrospective, having its world premiere at Telluride instead of Toronto.
