The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby Him & Her Jessica Chastain
You’d think that with all the sappy romantic comedies that exist, "When Harry Met Sally" and Richard Linklater’s 'Before...' series (just to name the most beloved), that relationship films have run their course and said all they’ve got to say. But then this year the Palme D’Or was awarded to a film that deals with the evolution of a single relationship in a potent and tender way, and while many talked about the importance of the film in terms of sexual politics, this reviewer looked at "Blue is the Warmest Color" more as a remarkably well made relationship film. Now it has some serious competition.

Tom Hiddleston Replaces Benedict Cumberbatch In Guillermo Del Toro's 'Crimson Peak'

The speculation that followed Benedict Cumberbatch's exit from Guillermo del Toro's R-rated Gothic romance "Crimson Peak" was deafening and absurd, most of it hinged around the fact that the star (whose "The Fifth Estate" just opened the Toronto International Film Festival) was supposedly leaving to headline J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII." When that turned out to be patently false, people sort of forgot about the spot that he had left in "Crimson Peak," a spot that has just been filled with an equally charming British dandy: Tom Hiddleston.

In case you missed it this morning, TIFF unveiled their first wave of titles, and they basically went to IMDB, looked up any remaining movies left in 2014 that you might be looking forward to, and them in their lineup. Okay, maybe that's a bit extreme but it's an incredible slate this year, and now we're starting to see some first look images of the movies that will making their way to Toronto.

This fall will mark fifty years since November 22, 1963 -- a date that continues to haunt American history. When John F. Kennedy was assassinated, it seemed to mark an undeniable shift in the country, away from the positivity and hope that followed War War II, into a more fraught and frightened era with more wars overseas, social and political upheaval and much more. To mark the anniversary, there will undoubtedly be a ton of programming and films to choose from, and this is one of them.

“Rodham,” the Hillary Clinton biopic, continues to move forward with a number of different actresses being rumored to play the lead role. But, any word of Jessica Chastain’s involvement in the project is certainly news to her. While at the Sound of Change concert in Surrey, England the other day, Chastain shot down reports that she was starring in the film.

Even though her political career isn't over yet, with a 2016 Presidential race still a distinct possibility, it looks like the life of Hillary Rodham Clinton is being prepared for some cinematic reflections. Last month, "Smashed" and "The Spectacular Now" director James Ponsoldt signed to direct the Black List approved "Rodham," a biopic focusing on Hillary's student days and her rise into the world of politics. It's some strong material and a good story, and naturally, some big name actresses are already being bandied about to take the lead role.

After two Oscar nominations in a row, and one of the best performances of the decade so far in "Zero Dark Thirty," all eyes have been on what Jessica Chastain would do next. While the actress has lined up some major projects -- teaming with Guillermo del Toro on "Crimson Peak" and Christopher Nolan on "Interstellar" -- the star's first move was to do something lower key; an adaptation of August Strindberg's seminal play of sexual politics and class, "Miss Julie."

Having already notched her belt with Terrence Malick, Kathryn Bigelow, John Hillcoat and Ralph Fiennes (among others) and lining up gigs this year with Liv Ullman ("Miss Julie") and Guillermo Del Toro ("Crimson Peak"), it's safe to say that Jessica Chastain has her pick of the crop. And now she's adding another big time filmmaker on to her enviable CV.
