Character posters. They're apparently not just for super hero films and tentpoles anymore. The Weinstein Company are getting in on the action and have delivered character posters for most of the cast of the upcoming prohibition-set drama "Lawless."

Already the out-and-out definition of a entertainment multi-hyphenate, poetry is something that also evidently flows in James Franco's blood, and is a world he loves to delve into for his film projects. Franco has made several shorts based on poems, including works by Anthony Hecht ("The Feast Of Stephen"), Spencer Reece ("The Clerk's Tale") and Frank Bidart ("Herbert White") before playing Hart Crane in "The Broken Tower" and Allen Ginsberg in "Howl." And it doesn't end there either.

Just when it seemed our fave redhead Jessica Chastain was making a play for a big franchise movie, it looks like her ever busy schedule is keeping her out. That's right -- Jessica Chastain has turned down a movie.

While "The Avengers" officially kicked off the summer movie season to the tune of $200 million dollars this weekend, Christmas for arthouse fans is just around the corner with the Cannes Film Festival. Granted, it's one of the more mainstream movies hitting the fest, but anticipation is running high for John Hillcoat's "Lawless." And one movie that wasn't ready in time, but that is also being eyed is Joe Wright's "Anna Karenina" and for both, some new pics have arrived to stoke the flames of ancipiation.

After a very long wait, we finally got the trailer for John Hillcoat's "Lawless" a couple of days ago, and while it was a bit more conventional that we were expecting, it should be remembered that trailers for Hillcoat's films have never done them justice in the slightest, and with the cast he's got lined up here, there's a strong reason why this remains very high on our Must See List for 2012.

The anticipation for John Hillcoat's "Lawless" -- formerly known as "The Wettest County In The World" and then just "The Wettest County" -- has been nearly unbearable. Going through a few release date shifts, and the aforementioned title change, fans eager for the film got a great boost of good news when it was announced last week that the film landed a coveted In Competition slot at the Cannes Film Festival. What at first seemed like The Weinstein Company moving around and tinkering with a movie they didn't know what to do with, instead looks like the studio positioning the film for the best rollout possible.

Sometimes, the nomination is the prize. Even in more open years than this one (where many of the major prizes have been locked in for weeks, if not months), only two or three of the nominees have had a realistic chance of winning, with the others merely filling out the field. Which is not to say that they're not deserving. Indeed, quite often, the anointed winner is in that position because they're overdue, or they're part of a film that's sweeping the Oscars in general, or any one of a number of reasons.

It looks like the hunt for Osama Bin Laden won't be the only place where Jessica Chastain and Joel Edgerton will hang together. The two rising actors will be reteaming for another project, one that as you might guess from the titles, has a rather ambitious concept.

Vanity Fair loves the ladies. For their annual Hollywood issue the magazine has once again gone with hot young things for their cover, making it three straight years the boys have left off from strutting their stuff (excluding the 2009 issue which for some reason had Barack Obama fronting the issue). But also as usual, it's hard to argue with their choices for the most part with Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence selected for the cover.
