The hunt for Osama Bin Laden might seem like a straightforward operation on paper, but juggling politics, changes in chains of command and a focus from international threats to homegrown efforts turned that job into a decade-long task. But as Kathryn Bigelow's based-on-fact account "Zero Dark Thirty" will reveal, there was one woman at the center who always had her eye on the endgame.

In the opening moments of the thriller-cum-action drama "Zero Dark Thirty," the picture displays text onscreen that reads, “based on firsthand accounts of actual events.” “I don’t want to play fast and loose with history,” Mark Boal, the screenwriter of the film, told the New York Times  about his in-depth research into the movie's story: the Seal Team Six hunt and elimination of Osama Bin Laden. "Zero Dark Thirty" -- a military term for thirty minutes after midnight -- reunites the Oscar-winning team of director-producer Kathryn Bigelow and writer-producer Boal (who brought you "The Hurt Locker") for the story of one of history's greatest manhunts.

In a moment, it seemed to be over. When news emerged last year that the U.S. government had undertaken a daring, clandestine mission that resulted in the killing of Osama Bin Laden, the revelation came as a surprise. Nearly a decade after the horrific attacks on 9/11, the nation was a bit closer to closure. But how was Bin Laden found? How did the search continue through two different administrations in the White House? Well, strap in...

Rome Review: 'Tar' With James Franco Is A Dreamy Collage Of Pretty But Overfamiliar Aesthetics

It's difficult to know quite what to make of 'Tar,' a multi-authored project seemingly coaxed into being by the sheer force of James Franco's current artistic cachet. Playing In Competition in the XXI sidebar of the Rome Film Festival, the film represents the work of twelve newbie directors -- NYU film students all -- and attempts to create an impressionistic interpretation of the work of poet CK Williams, who himself appears occasionally, reading from his collection. Championed by and starring Franco, amongst a starry cast including Mila Kunis, Jessica Chastain, Henry Hopper, Bruce Campbell and Zach Braff, the film shifts around in time and mood, using four different actors (Franco one of them) to depict Williams at different stages in his life, with the scenes sometimes playing out with internal dialogue and mini-storylines, and other times played mute, with snatches of poetry voiced over.

In case you weren't aware, Mads Mikkelsen is having a moment. The actor earned raves and a Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for his leading turn in Thomas Vinterberg's "The Hunt," and this weekend sees him give another strong performance in "A Royal Affair." And if that's not enough, he's going to be hitting arguably his biggest exposure outside of "Casino Royale" by taking a leading role in the buzzed about "Hannibal" on NBC. So, no surprise that he has his choice of projects.

If short filmmakers have a best case scenario in their minds when they set out to make something, then director Andres Muschietti may have just achieved it. After premiering his short film, “Mama,” to near-unanimous praise during festivals the past few years, the young filmmaker was chosen by Guillermo del Toro to develop the film into a feature, and soon after actress Jessica Chastain came aboard as well. Essentially reward upon reward for Muschietti, and we now get a nice glimpse ourselves as the first still from the project has hit the net.
