The Great Gatsby
The distinctive, vista-obsessed movies of Baz Luhrmann are nothing if not stylish, generally flamboyant and lavish in their candy-colored visual treatments. Subtlety has never been of much interest to the Australian filmmaker who has leaned heavily on melodrama and romantic fairy tales told in a passionate, bright Technicolor style. But sincerity and resplendent ardor have generally anchored his always-plush films, even when they’ve been too long and affected (“Australia”) or overpowered with the odor of teen angst (“Romeo + Juliet”). Luhrmann, it seems, was born to tell stories of impossible love in the most sumptuous ways possible.

We're not going to recount the saga of the various ins and outs of the currently in production western "Jane Got A Gun," but if there is one person (besides Natalie Portman) who has seen the project through from day one, it's Joel Edgerton. Originally slated to play the villain, only to switch to the husband role when Michael Fassbender bailed and Jude Law joined (the latter exited, to be replaced by Cooper...who left earlier this week...) Edgerton has weathered the storm, and according to him, while on the outside it might look like the movie is in turmoil, it couldn't be better.

With music proving to be a key element in Baz Luhrmann's upcoming take on the classic American novel "The Great Gatsby," given how hard the push has been for the soundtrack, it's beginning to eclipse the fact that there are some very real movie stars in this thing. But today we have a bit of both as the nearly daily updates on 'Gatsby' continue.

Well, you gotta admit, Baz Luhrmann has a pretty big pair of brass ones when it comes to "The Great Gatsby." With a soundtrack dressing up the classic American novel with songs by will.i.am, Fergie, Lana Del Rey, Jay-Z and The xx, he's certainly taking F. Scott Fitzgerald's book out of the classroom and into...somewhere else. And with 3D visuals, lavish set design and, oh yeah, an all star cast, it's go big or go home. And now a few more treats are here to bring you into Luhrmann's world.

Wish You Were Here, Joel Edgerton, Teresa Palmer
With a membership that includes Joel Edgerton, Nash Edgerton, David Michôd, Spencer Susser and more, it's safe to say that the Blue Tongue Films collective isn't lacking in talent. And while the name Kieran Darcy-Smith might not be the most familiar of the group, he more than matches the talent his colleagues have shown across their projects, and his feature debut "Wish You Were Here" shows another strong filmmaking voice emerging from Blue Tongue.

Filming might have got underway, but the dust is still settling on what was undoubtedly the biggest news story of the week: "We Need To Talk About Kevin" director Lynne Ramsay seemingly walking out of her latest film, Western "Jane Got A Gun" on the first day of production, before a frame had been shot. She was swiftly replaced by "Warrior" helmer Gavin O'Connor, but actor Jude Law followed Ramsay out the door, leaving stars Natalie Portman and Joel Edgerton without a villain (though Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Jeff Bridges are apparently being courted).
