Map To The Stars
Yesterday, we got our first taste of David Cronenberg's "Maps To The Stars," with what was essentially a post-production reel. And is generally the case, that kind of footage isn't always the best representation of the tone and style of the finished product. Well, this morning brings with it another look at Cronenberg's film with another trailer, one boasting lots of new footage and a distinctly different vibe.

Maps To The Stars
David Cronenberg is back, and this time he's taking on his most terrifying, mind-altering subject yet: Hollywood families. Yep, the filmmaker who has spent a career shaking us up with various types of body horror, is continuing his exploration into the psyche, following up the Freudian "A Dangerous Method," and the chatty "Cosmopolis" with "Maps To The Stars."

Review: Riveting, Nimble & Elegant Thriller 'Grand Piano' Starring Elijah Wood & John Cusack

A welcome reminder that high-concept thrillers needn’t rely on stupid coincidences and even stupider characters in order to succeed, “Grand Piano” turns the unlikeliest of scenarios into a riveting battle of wills. The story of a concert pianist whose comeback performance gets hijacked by a sniper with a secret agenda, director Eugenio Mira’s latest film breathlessly combines artistic anxiety and personal desperation, providing its character with a journey as intense emotionally as it is physically. In fact, probably the best Brian De Palma movie he never made, “Grand Piano” expands the boundaries of single-location, real-time mysteries like “Phone Booth” and “Panic Room” with a brilliantly simple concept and nimble, elegant style.

The Bag Man
The first sign there is something seriously wrong with “The Bag Man” is the poster. In the same size font, we see the names of the film’s three stars: John Cusack, Rebecca Da Costa, and Robert De Niro. Equal billing for Cusack, De Niro, and … Da Costa? Who is Rebecca De Costa? Why is her name given equal status? And for that matter, why does De Niro look like Bernie Madoff playing Robert Evans, or vice versa? And why does Cusack look more like Richard Nixon here than he did playing Nixon in “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”? And what to make of the writing underneath the title “The Bag Man”? It reads: “THE CAT’S IN THE BAG,” followed by “INSPIRED BY THE STORY ‘THE CAT’ BY MARIE-LOUISE VON FRANZ”? What the hell is happening here?!

At just 22, Emma Roberts (“It's Kind of a Funny Story,” “The Art of Getting By,” “Celeste and Jesse Forever”) is about the same age her aunt Julia was when she shot to stardom with the iconic hit “Pretty Woman.” But times have changed, and in Emma’s latest rom-com — Scott Coffey’s “Adult World,” which premiered this week at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival — she plays not a hooker with a heart of gold, but a virginal Syracuse graduate.

Drive Hard
So, we've had "Drive," "Drive Angry" and now there's "Drive Hard." Of course, these films aren't at all related except by the fact that they're all about guys behind the wheel, and perhaps that everyone should stop using the word "drive" in their movie titles if the results are going to be this bad.

Grand Piano
On paper, the premise of "Grand Piano" might seem a little silly, following a famed a concert pianist, stricken with stage fright, who attempts to make a comeback after five years only to have an unseen assailant threaten his life if plays a single note wrong. But the result may be far more gripping than you might expect.

The Bag Man
File this under: movies you forgot existed. As much as he's a bonafide legend, and will go down as one of the great actors of his time, Robert De Niro still will sign on to the most random, middling fare from time to time. Which brings us to "The Bag Man." Never heard of it? Well, maybe you'll recall when it was first announced a couple years ago under the title "Motel." Still doesn't ring any bells? Don't sweat it because the first trailer is here.

Premiering last spring at the Tribeca Film Festival and then not seen elsewhere for the rest of 2013, we had nearly forgotten about "Adult World." But the comedy is very much back on the radar with a brand new trailer ahead of its release next month.

After working with Nicolas Winding Refn, Ridley Scott, Zack Snyder, Steven Soderbergh and hell, even Madonna, you would think that plenty of doors are already open for Oscar Isaac. Well, we're sure teaming with the Coen Brothers for "Inside Llewyn Davis" (and knocking it out of the park) kicked down a few more.
