When Disney/Pixar’s “Monsters Inc” was released way back in the fall of 2001, it was easily the studio’s warmest and endearingly heart-tugging feature. But “Monsters Inc,” in its vision of a monstrous universe that derives its power from children’s screams, was also the studio’s most self-contained feature; it was so emotionally fulfilling that it didn’t beg for further installments. Which is what makes “Monsters University,” the new “Monsters Inc” prequel, so baffling. Did anyone really stop to think, gee I wonder what Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sulley (John Goodman) were like in monster college? The answer, of course, is no. The great, totally welcome shock, however, is how vibrant, hilarious and emotionally resonant “Monsters University” is. It might be wholly unnecessary, but you can’t help but love it anyway.

Inside Llewyn Davis, Oscar Isaac
Long hours on the road, sleeping on sofas, eating very little, playing shows for little money; it's a wonder why anyone struggles to make it as a musician. But for Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac) there really isn't any other option to playing music. "...And what, just exist?" he counters, when his sister suggests he stops couch surfing, borrowing money and barely getting by, and re-enter the Merchant Marine. While Llewyn can't quite put into words the passion that sustains an existence perpetually on the fringes, hustling for the next dollar, it's that weary energy that drives the Coen Brothers' "Inside Llewyn Davis."

Inside Llewyn Davis, Oscar Isaac
In just over a week, the Coens will present their latest "Inside Llewyn Davis" to the always fussy audiences at the Cannes Film Festival. While we'll have to wait until we actually see the thing, it's looking like another success from the sibling directors. CBS Films is already thinking Oscar, but if you're not going to France and can't wait until December, this red band trailer should hold over.

When Disney and Pixar announced that they were attempting a "Monsters Inc." prequel that would show us what our beloved heroes Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sulley (John Goodman) were like in college, it was hard to muster much enthusiasm. After all, much of the charm of the first film lay in the fact that it was a workplace comedy, and the workers just happened to be monsters who scared human children for a living. Seeing them in college not only seemed regressive but, if it didn't succeed, could sully (ha) the sweetness of the original. But little by little as we've seen more and more of "Monsters University," the more excited we've become. With a release of the final trailer, our excitement has been solidified. This looks scary good.

Oh, so you didn't think that first trailer for "The Hangover Part III" was so good, huh? Well, Warner Bros. is gonna take another swing at the plate later this week when they drop a newer (and hopefully better) one, and in the lead up to that, they're sharing a bit of marketing material to build the buzz.

" 'The Hangover Part III' is Alan's story," director Todd Phillips said late last year about the plot of the third installment of the 'Hangover' franchise. "He's going through a crisis after the death of his father, [and] the Wolf Pack is all he has." And after surviving Las Vegas and Thailand together, who better to have your back? Well the new trailer for the "fitting end to this three-part opera of mayhem and bad decisions" has arrived to strap in.

Aside from perhaps "The Ladykillers" (and even that film features a great Tom Hanks performance, at least), it's hard to find at least one Coen Brothers movie that doesn't have passionate supporters that declare it the best thing the directing duo ever made. From debut "Blood Simple" to the recent megahit western "True Grit," every Coen picture has its advocate (this writer has an unconditional adoration of their 1994 commercial disaster "The Hudsucker Proxy," for instance). But none of their films are more beloved than "The Big Lebowski."

Making a political comedy? There is probably no better person to wield a pen on the subject than "Doonesbury" creator Garry Trudeau. And indeed, he's been tapped to pen "Alpha House," one of six new projects Amazon Studios are ramping up, and they've landed a big name to join.
