He's kind of an asshole, he's completely out of control, and you wouldn't trust him to water your planets without burning something down. Yet, despite all that, you'll still totally want to hang out with "Dom Hemingway." And a new trailer is here to show you why.

He's rude, crude, nasty, verbose and totally fucking hilarious. It's "Dom Hemingway," the latest creation from writer/director Richard Shephard and it's the kind of dynamite, larger than life character that actors dream of. And Jude Law has a ball with it.

The Broken Circle Breakdown
If there's one movie you might hear The Playlist prattling on about in the next few weeks, it's Felix van Groeningen's "Broken Circle Breakdown." Having already won the heart of Jessica Kiang when it hit Karlovy Vary earlier this year, I saw it this past week and was equally taken with the moving, messy, ambitious and beautiful film that has already received awards at both the Berlin Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival. And the film's list of honors may continue at the Oscars, where it's Belgium's entry, but first it's stopping at European Film Awards, where it's leading the pack of nominees.

While Matthew McConaughey continues to be deservedly praised for his career turnaround, how about a little shout out to Jude Law? He too has put together a pretty nice string of pictures over the past few years, teaming twice with Steven Soderbergh ("Contagion," "Side Effects"), logging time with Martin Scorsese ("Hugo"), Wes Anderson ("The Grand Budapest Hotel") and Joe Wright ("Anna Karenina"), and taking a big bite out of next spring's delightfully raunchy "Dom Hemingway" (review here). And oh yeah, he's got the thriller "Black Sea" coming too, and some first look images have arrived...

There were few films at TIFF this year as brazenly filthy and outrageous as "Dom Hemingway," and certainly fewer as enjoyable. And while release date schedules dictate that the movie still won't arrive stateside until next year, overseas, audiences will be the first to dive into the fun, and a new trailer is here to highlight what's in store. But don't make any quick judgments on the movie based on this trailer which doesn't really do the tone of "Dom Hemingway" justice.

TIFF Review: Wild & Vulgar 'Dom Hemingway' Starring Jude Law

Dom Hemmingway, Jude Law
"A man with no options suddenly has all the options in the world," goes the liquor-soaked advice of Dom Hemingway (Jude Law). And while he admits that he has no idea what that actually means, he nonetheless lives that credo to the fullest in Richard Shepard's wickedly wild and vulgar "Dom Hemingway." It's not a surprise that our first introduction to the character is during a monologue that he's delivering on the magnificence of his own cock, a work of art in Dom's mind, as he certainly has lived his own life with his dick in one hand, a bottle in the other, a cigarette in his mouth, cocaine up his nose and women with their legs spread, at the ready. But now there's just one problem—he's getting old.

While the film won't officially be released into theaters next spring, Fox Searchlight must already be feeling pretty good about their upcoming crime comedy "Dom Hemingway." The studio will be officially unveiling the flick at TIFF next month, well before it arrives in cinemas, and today brings a few early looks at the movie.

Jude Law
It's cool if you forgot about this project, because we pretty much did too. While Kevin Macdonald's last feature was 2011's "The Eagle," he hasn't slowed down for a moment, delivering the crowdsourced "Life In A Day" around the same time and "Marley" last year, with his next film "How I Live Now" starring Saoirse Ronan, shot and somewhere on the horizon. And keeping that workflow going, he's already putting together another movie that once again will see him change gears.

So, if somehow you've been away for the past 24 hours, here's what's been going on: Lynne Ramsay bailed on the western "Jane Got A Gun" on the first day of production yesterday, only to be replaced by "Warrior" helmer Gavin O'Connor this morning, with plans to start shooting tomorrow. Well, they'll have to scrap those plans as the project has lost another major talent.
