Traditionally, TV slows down in the summer months, but that was in the days before pay-cable came to prominence. "Game Of Thrones" et al might be winding down for the season, but HBO will debut "The Leftovers" and the final season of "True Blood" in just a few weeks, while Showtime still has some "Penny Dreadful" to unspool. And while FX is still technically a basic cable station, they have as impressive a line-up as anyone: right now, with "Fargo" and 'Louie," they have two of the best shows on TV.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
Apes will rule the Earth ... at least at the multiplex this summer when "Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes" arrives, picking up years after "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes," with humanity now at the mercy of the super smart simians. A lot of work went into creating the realistic looking simians, that goes far beyond the tremendous amount of CGI.

He may have starred in two of the worst blockbusters of recent years -- “Green Lantern” and “R.I.P.D.” -- but don’t hold that against him, given the right film and role (like in this year’s “The Voices”) Ryan Reynolds can shine. Deadline reports Reynolds will stay in the arthouse world with a role in the Helen Mirren-starring “Woman In Gold” alongside Daniel Bruhl, who’s in negotiations with The Weinstein Company.

“The Good Dinosaur”
A couple of weeks ago at the D23 Expo, during the lengthy presentation on Walt Disney Animation, there was a noticeable absentee: Pixar alum Bob Peterson, whose debut feature as a director, "The Good Dinosaur" (he co-directed "Up" with Pete Docter), was featured heavily. Co-director Pete Sohn was there, as was producer Denise Ream, plus a few members of the movie's starry voice cast (including Lucas Neff, Judy Greer and Bill Hader). Peterson's absence was conspicuously odd and according to Disney personnel on the scene, Peterson wasn't available due to "scheduling difficulties." But of course it looks like now that isn't the case: Blue Sky Disney is reporting that Peterson is officially off the project and that the movie is frantically looking for a replacement so it can make its May 30th, 2014 release date.

The more we hear about Disney's sci-fi "Tomorrowland," the more we’re intrigued. Related in some way to the Disney theme park attraction, the plot is still officially "unknown," though we’ve heard some fantastic things. The Brad Bird-directed film has already lined up an array of actors, including George Clooney and Hugh Laurie, or for doctor drama fans, Dr. Doug Ross ("E.R.") and Dr. Gregory House ("House, M.D."). And now, Judy Greer has joined the line-up, presumably as a bit of comic relief, but at this point, any speculation as to her specific role is being pulled out of thin air. This will mark Greer’s third film with Clooney; the others being "Three Kings" and "The Descendants."

It's hard to believe that in just a few weeks, after years of hopes, rumors, speculation and wishful thinking, a brand new season of "Arrested Development" will be here. And it won't be parceled out with an episode each week -- instead, Netflix is going to drop all 15 in one go, prompting marathon viewing across the nation, and challenging servers from coast to coast.

While we were troubled by Rupert Wyatt's exit and the apparent reasons behind it -- a rushed schedule in order to make a pre-ordained release date -- 20th Century Fox seem to have been going out of their way to make us feel good about "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," the follow-up to the surprisingly excellent 2011 blockbuster "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." First they had a script draft by "Side Effects" scribe Scott Z. Burns, then replaced Wyatt with "Let Me In," director Matt Reeves. Then Reeves cast his film up, and alongside the returning Andy Serkis, landed Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

"Arrested Development" scene-stealer Judy Greer is adding another string to her bow, joining Kimberley Peirce's remake of Brian De Palma horror classic "Carrie." The actress will take on the role known simply as "The Gym Teacher," which we're presuming is the role of Miss Collins in the original, the empathetic teacher who looks out for Carrie and has an instrumental part in the film's climax at the prom.
