She's Funny That Way aka Squirrel To The Nuts
If you've so much as read the headline of this review, you're probably already thinking too hard about Peter Bogdanovich's star-studded "She's Funny That Way," which is but a trifle, designed to melt in your mouth like candy floss. In fact, it goes out of its way to avoid anything that even faintly smacks of realism or meaningfulness; it just wants you to like it.

Jennifer Connelly is getting off the ark and onto dry land. The "Noah" actress is joining Ewan McGregor for a film adaptation of Philip Roth's "American Pastoral." Directed by Phillip Noyce, the movie will follow an average American couple who are devastated "when their daughter turns revolutionary and commits a violent act of terrorism during the Vietnam War." This Is Where I Leave You, Shawn Levy
Okay, we'll give credit to "This Is Where I Leave You" for the cast the film has assembled. Who could argue with Jane Fonda, Tina Fey, Jason Bateman, Rose Byrne, Adam Driver, Kathryn Hahn, Corey Stoll, Connie Britton, Ben Schwartz, Timothy Olyphant, Aaron Lazar, Debra Monk, Abigail Spencer and Dax Shepard being in the same movie together? It's just a shame its one as generic as this.

Licking his wounds after the critical drubbing of "The Last Airbender," along with the equally reviled and commercial bomb "After Earth," M. Night Shyamalan is going indie, with production already underway on "Sundowning." The project has been shooting somewhat in secret for a while, but some new details have emerged that will hopefully see Shyamalan getting his mojo back.

Review: Jason Bateman's 'Bad Words' Has Lots Of Them, But Few Are Actually Funny

Bad Words
The past few years have seen the R-rated comedy rise in popularity with audiences, in acclaim with critics and, most importantly, in dollars at the box office. But while successes like "The Hangover" (the first one only) and "Bridesmaids" are pinnacle examples of using the adults-only rating to raunchy perfection, there are handfuls more that simply think a wacky premise and salty language are the only ingredients you need for comedy. What many of these films don't understand is that without smart context or clever delivery, the punch and power of cursing or even the salaciousness of a well-placed breast doesn't work. And while Jason Bateman's directorial debut "Bad Words" undoubtedly uses a lot of them, few add up to any genuine comedy.

Bad Words
Stubborn, obnoxious, self-centered, mean... there are more than few words that describe Guy Trilby, and a lot of them not fit to print. He's the prickly, rudely funny heart of "Bad Words," the directorial debut of Jason Bateman, who also takes the lead role. And as the title suggests, this R-rated comedy doesn't hold anything back.

25 Breakthrough Artists of 2013
One of the great pleasures of being a movie fan is the discovery of new performers. Faces that, months earlier, you'd have passed by in the street, suddenly gifted the role of a lifetime, and whose lives will never be the same again. It feels to us that 2013 was an especially strong year for new faces: festivals like Sundance, SXSW and Cannes, not to mention films that went straight to wide release, unleashed a veritable hurricane of talent that we'll be seeing for years to come.
