Miss Meadows
The long-gestating adaptation of “The Giver” may not have set the box office ablaze —a 5th place finish with $12.1 million— or won over critics, but that isn’t stopping Katie Holmes from aiming at the cheap seats again with “Miss Meadows.” The thriller’s first trailer has arrived online to entice anyone who's ever wanted to see the ex-Mrs. Cruise wield firearms.

The Giver
It wouldn't be surprising if the current spate of Young Adult film adaptations is met with a degree of resentment by movie-lovers over 18 years old. When the films turn out to be entertaining and worthy of their respective source material (like the “Harry Potter” and “Hunger Games” franchises), some adults surely wish they could watch with the carefree sensibilities of a fifteen year old.

The Giver
“The Giver” hits theaters this weekend, and if you’re still on the fence about seeing it, these five clips probably won't seal the deal. At first, we were optimistic about Phillip Noyce’s adaptation of Lois Lowry’s 1993 pre-YA novel, in light of the casting of producer-star Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep inspiring a degree of confidence . But each time we get a closer look, the film looks more and more like a paint-by-numbers dystopian teen disgrace.

Emily Ratajkowski
While rightly celebrated for his films, Spike Jonze is also an ace actor, who excels and showing up in small roles and knocking them out of the park. His turn as a penny stock mover and shaker in Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf Of Wall Street" was memorable stuff, as was his brief appearance in Bennett Miller's "Moneyball."

The Giver
Fans of Lois Lowry's "The Giver" are loathe to lump it into the YA genre, so they probably won't like this much: this new trailer for the movie feels, for better or worse, like a cross between "The Truman Show" and "The Matrix." There, we said it. However, neither of those movies has Jeff Bridges or Meryl Streep so that certainly niggles at our curiosity at what looks like yet another dystopian tale where people who have the wool pulled over their eyes finally see the truth.

Brilliance Will Smith
Will Smith has bowed out of the Legendary Pictures' David Koepp-penned adaptation of Marcus Sakey's novel "Brilliance." Set to be helmed by Julius Onah, the film centers on a group of people with remarkable powers (mutants? miracles?) and an endowed federal agent who must stop a rogue "brilliant" from starting a civil war.

Zach Galifinakis Bored To Death
Other than the premieres of many high-profile and exciting films, the Cannes Film Festival is also host to a marketplace where production companies try to entice distributors—or just regular old financiers—to buy into projects. As a result, many news of castings or just plain brand-new films filter out of that glamorous place, and naturally we’ve rounded up a few of those items for your easy-reading pleasure below.

Tribeca Review: 'Miss Meadows' Starring Katie Homes And James Badge Dale

Miss Meadows
Moviegoers who are slaves to genre aren't going to have much love for the legitimately out-of-control “Miss Meadows." This whatsit begins with a prim and proper maiden talking to CGI squirrels and birds before firing a pistol into the throat of an obvious sex offender in the middle of a sunny suburban street. The victim isn't sleazy enough to be funny, the violence is too glib to be serious, and there's, overall, a jarring divide occurring here. Immediately, the knee-jerk reaction is to say this doesn't work.

The Giver
Here we go again... While Jeff Bridges may have been on the ball with "The Giver," developing the adaptation of Lois Lowry’s award-winning book for well over a decade, the film is entering an arena littered with carcasses of similar, but failed efforts ("The Host," "Beautiful Creatures," "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones" etc). So can this one rise above the pack?

Though she's conquered the music world and the gossip pages, Taylor Swift is now trying her hand at acting. She had a voice role in last year's animated "The Lorax" and popped up in one episode of "New Girl," but now it looks like Hollywood is ready to let her act opposite legends like Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges. Okay, then ...
