But icon Karl Lagerfeld is hoping to turn that notion on its head with "Once Upon A Time...," an 18-minute complete short film, starring Keira Knightley (chosen by Lagerfeld to be the face of Coco Mademoiselle) and boasting an actual story, to go with some impressive production values.

When Christopher Nolan or his associates call, you pick up the phone, and Rebecca Hall certainly did, joining Nolan Cohort Wally Pfister's directorial debut "Transcendence." but that left Lynn Shelton with a bit of a problem. She needed a lead for her upcoming "Laggies," which Hall had been circling, but the director soon landed Anne Hathaway. But again, the gravitational pull of the Nolan juggernaut meant that didn't quite work out either, as she went on to do Nolan's "Interstellar."

Oh hey, there you are "Anna Karenina." Since unspooling overseas at the tail end of the summer, and hitting TIFF for its North American bow, word has been very, very quiet on Joe Wright's latest effort. And it's a real shame because the movie is both spectacular and moving, doing justice to the emotion in Leo Tolstoy's tale of doomed love, but giving the material an enjoyably indulgent theatrical treatment. The big word on this movie is that it was shot all on a single soundstage with interconnected sets, and while the artificiality shows through sometimes (intentionally), it never detracts from the story or the epic feel of the movie.

She first came to notice in British thriller "The Hole" in 2001, aged only 16, the following year co-starred in crowd-pleasing comedy "Bend It Like Beckham," and the next year headlined Disney mega-blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl." And although she's attracted more unwarranted bile than many of her contemporaries, she's also continued to impress as an actress, starting with an Oscar nomination aged only 20 for "Pride & Prejudice" (the fourth youngest in history in the category).

When it was announced that Joe Wright was going to direct a new film version of Leo Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina," starring his cinematic muse Keira Knightley, most people probably knew what to expect. After all, the two had collaborated on both Wright's debut "Pride & Prejudice" and "Atonement" (both also produced by Working Title Films) and it was easy to assume that their take on the Russian classic would be along similar lines; a handsome period piece taking advantage of the best British actors available, and with a few showy camera touches that would set it apart from your average costume drama.

Wait, are they really calling the movie formerly known as "Moscow," and then "Untitled Jack Ryan Movie" plain old "Jack Ryan"? Is this movie about an accountant who can find a way to get you even bigger return next year? What about something like the badass titles of yesteryear like "Clear And Present Danger," "The Sum Of All Fears," and "The Hunt For Red October"? Bleh. Let's hope this is just a holding pattern and that Paramount change their minds, but anyway, the movie has a release date.

So, Jack Ryan is finally coming back. The long-developing movie, formerly titled "Moscow" and now generically known as "Untitled Jack Ryan Reboot" or whatever, is actually headed into production with Kenneth Branagh directing and playing the villain, Chris Pine in the lead role, Keira Knightley as his wife and Kevin Costner as the man who recruits and trains the agent. And with screenwriter David Koepp recently telling ComingSoon that shooting begins in two weeks, Paramount is ready to place this thing on the calendar and starting thinking franchise.
