The fall filmgoing season won't be lacking film's of ambition, from Paul Thomas Anderson's 65mm look at the formation of a cult in "The Master" to Baz Luhrmann's 3D take on "The Great Gatsby" to the fantastical razzle dazzle of Ang Lee's 3D "Life Of Pi." But also aiming squarely for your eyes and heart as well is Joe Wright's "Anna Karenina" and this generous six minute clip showcases a film that is swinging all the way to fences.

After unveiling a rather sumptuous trailer last month, the slowly building marketing campaign for Joe Wright's promisingly dazzling "Anna Karenina" continues, now with a new poster for the movie that puts Keira Knightley in the path of an oncoming train. Anyone who's read the book will know what that means.

It was just yesterday we were talking about Joe Wright's "Anna Karenina," wondering if it would be hitting the Venice Film Festival in advance of its fall release, and lo and behold, it seems the marketing campaign for the movie is beginning to roll out.

Review: ‘Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World’ Is Too Apocalyptically Cute

“Seeking a Friend for the End of the World,” the directorial debut of writer Lorene Scafaria (she also wrote “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”), has a premise that, if handled correctly, could really shake up romantic comedy conventions in new and exciting ways. It’s set during the final weeks of our planet’s life, as a killer asteroid rockets toward earth and the basic functions of society start to decay and fall apart. It’s sort of like “Melancholia” if the wedding section had been a screwball comedy, or maybe if you wanted “Armageddon” to be more like “Crazy Stupid Love.” And “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World,” while occasionally punctuated with poignancy and darkness, never fully engages with the niftiness of its concept. It’s ultimately too cute to really be about anything, a clever premise lost in a sea of apocalyptically bland romantic comedy conventions.

By this point, we've seen at least something from pretty much every major movie 2012 has to offer. "The Hobbit"? Yep. "Django Unchained"? That hit yesterday. Hell, even "The Master" snuck out a clip and Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" launched a splashy trailer. But with a fall release date set for Joe Wright's "Anna Karenina," we haven't seen one peep except for a handful of images, and while we await some kind of footage, a few more pics have landed online.

In February, the first trailer for Lorene Scafaria's "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" debuted, and it's a "world will end in three weeks" story mixed with a darkly comedic tone that quickly pushed the film into our 10 most anticipated indie films of the summer list. Even the soundtrack avoids a heavy dose of melancholy, preferring a bounty of uptempo nostalgia, featuring the hits of yesteryear from the likes of INXS and The Beach Boys. So, you can imagine how curious we might be, now that Focus Features has released two new preview clips from 'Seeking a Friend,' to see if it matches with our enthusiasm. Sadly, they don't.

Now roughly six billion people have seen the thing, we can all pretty much agree that Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson were the secret weapons of superhero mega-hit "The Avengers." The former brought a wry understatement to Bruce Banner, as well as performance-capturing the most effective screen take on the Hulk yet, while Johansson banished any memories of her flat turn in "Iron Man 2" and made Black Widow steely, vulnerable, cunning and funny, often in the same breath.

With the end of the world coming, you might think that some truly apocalyptic sounds from bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Mogwai might be appropriate, but at least in the universe of "Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World," it looks like people are going to get reacquainted with old hits and classic tunes as they meet their untimely demise.

While "The Avengers" officially kicked off the summer movie season to the tune of $200 million dollars this weekend, Christmas for arthouse fans is just around the corner with the Cannes Film Festival. Granted, it's one of the more mainstream movies hitting the fest, but anticipation is running high for John Hillcoat's "Lawless." And one movie that wasn't ready in time, but that is also being eyed is Joe Wright's "Anna Karenina" and for both, some new pics have arrived to stoke the flames of ancipiation.
