Looks like the clock has run out on "24." (Sorry.) Earlier this year, everything looked good to go on the long-gestating big screen outing for the hit TV show. Kiefer Sutherland hinted that the movie would be a direct continuation of the show, set six months after the series ended, with everything gearing up to shoot next month, once the actor was done with his work on his latest Fox show "Touch." But it looks like scheduling just couldn't be worked out.

While the movie adaptation of "24" won't borrow the show's main conceit of taking place in real time -- the title would have to lose a number, for one -- it looks like there won't be a huge difference with the subject material. When asked by Collider about the Mark Bomback-penned script for the "24" movie (hopefully retitled "The Jack Bauer Power Hour"), star Kiefer Sutherland took a break from promoting his new Fox series "Touch" to she some light on the plot developments that will trouble Bauer's CTU agency on the big screen in 2013.

Like Jack Bauer wrapping a sleeper hold around his enemy and cooly whispering, "Don't fight it," there's been a certain inevitability to a "24" movie. Based on the hit Bush-era Fox show, the real-time adventures of CTU superagent Bauer has been bound for the big-screen based on the lives and deaths he's experienced, the terrorists he's killed, and the helicopters he's downed. Television, after all, is too small a medium for this man's excellence in the field of counter-terrorism. Do you really need to see the season three episode where it takes him an hour to kick a heroin addiction? You should.

It's been a fairly wild ride for 20th Century Fox and Brian Grazer's big screen version of the popular television series "24," which starred Kiefer Sutherland as a tough-as-nails counter-terrorist secret agent with a penchant for torturing people. After shooting down "Breach" screenwriter Billy Ray's script almost a year ago (something we still can't figure out), all parties remained optimistic, with both Sutherland and Grazer pegging 2012 as the year when the eventual film would shoot. Somehow, the perceived development hell that the film was mired in didn't get to any of the principles. And, as it turns out, they were right. Deadline is reporting that Sutherland, Fox, and Grazer are all pulling the "24" movie together, to shoot as early as this spring.

It's been a while since we've heard from Mira Nair. The celebrated director behind "Salaam Bombay!," "Monsoon Wedding" and "The Namesake" flopped pretty hard in 2009 with the tepid prestige pic "Amelia" and she's been laying low since. Or so we thought. She's not only already set the cast for her next film, it's already in front of cameras.

Jodie Foster's "The Beaver" didn't exactly bring Mel Gibson back into the spotlight after his very public rants and raves at then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. The film got mediocre reviews and hasn't exactly returned financially on the $20 million budget. Needless to say, he's got a while before reaching Robert Downey Jr. heights of personal rehabilitation. That doesn't mean he isn't trying, as Variety reports that he's in talks to join Brad Mirman's "Sleight of Hand."

Director Matt Reeves has made leaps and bounds in his film career, transitioning from television to the monster movie "Cloverfied" and then helming the absolutely fantastic "Let Me In" last year. Why anyone would want Reeves to return to the "Cloverfield" world instead of using his talents for something much more worth his time (*ahem*"The Wolverine"*ahem*) is a bit beyond us, but the project is still on the table. Earlier this year, Reeves told us that he hasn't "really decided what that would be yet” when asked about "Cloverfield 2" and well, it's remains pretty much the status quo.

Sometimes Hollywood is like a magical genie: if you talk about a project enough times, it will get a greenlight, simply because people interpret "talking about" to be "buzz" and "anticipation" which, somewhere down the line, is supposed to equal dollars. So this sudden chatter regarding a "24" movie might be doing the TV adaptation a favor, as it recently hit a roadblock with Fox rejecting a script from "Flightplan" and "Breach" scribe Billy Ray.

'My Name Is Jack Bauer, And I Am In Development Hell'Bad news for those hoping for the further adventures of Kiefer Sutherland's rogue CTU agent Jack Bauer: apparently Fox has rejected a script from high-profile scribe Billy Ray ("Shattered Glass," "Salt") for a feature film continuing the adventures of the lead character of "24," the hit series that ran for eight years and successfully tapped into that raw post-9/11 paranoia during the Bush years. The intention all along was to push the show into the cinematic world, but so-so ratings for the final season, coupled with likely budgetary concerns (the series might as well have been called "Shooting Down Exploding Helicopters") have put the kibosh on big screen plans.
