Finally from our roundup of tonight’s Weinstein Company 2013 preview reel (you can read about “The Immigrant” here and the rest of the movies teased here), and well, we’ve kind of saved the best for last. Or at least, the best received on the night. Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Only God Forgives” is without a doubt one of the most hotly anticipated movies playing at this Cannes Festival, promising to send a jolt of that amoral, violent, genre cool he does so well surging through a lineup that’s a little heavy on the “serious adult drama” side otherwise.

Ryan Gosling, Only God Forgives
While the story behind "Only God Forgives" will be the reunion between "Drive" director and star, Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling, is it too early to declare that Kristin Scott Thomas might steal the show? Possibly, but in these three new clips from the movie she stands tall above the whiskey glass smashing and chase sequences.

So remember about a year ago when Abel Ferrara was talking up his next movie, one that would be inspired/based on disgraced French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn? While producers were cagier, Ferrara was talking up a shoot last summer with Gerard Depardieu in the lead role, with Isabelle Adjani to co-star? Well, that didn't happen and now it looks like he's going to have to find a new leading lady.

Steve McQueen has quite an abundance of talent at his disposal for "Twelve Years A Slave" but now has more two more additions in TV staple Alfre Woodard and newcomer Lupita Nyong'o. Woodard will play a former slave who has risen through the caste system while Nyong'o plays the object of both affection and cruelty of Master Epps, to be played by Michael Fassbender. The film, of course, stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon Northup, a free black man who is tricked into slavery and faces a grueling life under several owners. Brad Pitt, Scoot McNairy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamatti, Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Garrett Dillahunt, Ruth Negga and Adepero Oduye all co-star in the John Ridley co-scripted tale. Most anticipated for 2013? It's up there, no doubt. [THR]

Lensing will take the production across eight different countries in a hectic 30-day chronological shoot, and will unusually involve the participation of film fans from 11 countries in areas such as casting, location and props. More details can be found at the film's website, but each country's shoot will make up a 5-8 minute segment of the movie, with a shoot commencing this summer before a September unveiling. Tuesday, February 7th, marked the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens, and as a result, the author is one of the hottest properties around at the moment. Among the many Dickens related projects in the works, the coming year will bring two star-laden versions of "Great Expectations," one an excellent BBC TV miniseries with Ray Winstone and Gillian Anderson (watch the trailer below, courtesy of Time), the other a Mike Newell film with Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham-Carter and "War Horse" star Jeremy Irvine.

The next twelve months will be something of a pivot point for Robert Pattinson, as by this time next year, the "Twilight" series, which made his name, will be over, and the risk of him becoming a vampiric version of Mark Hamill -- never able to escape the shadow of his mega franchise -- will start to come up; while he's had a few modest successes, none have been massive, or particularly critically acclaimed. But the actor is clearly taking advice from the right people, with two indie films on the way with some pretty high pedigree, the second of which, David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" is one of our most anticipated films of 2012.
