Even without being massively fond of many of the films produced from his screenplays (not least his pretty bad directorial debut "London Boulevard"), we're fond of William Monahan and his salty dialogue, best embodied in his Oscar-winning script for "The Departed," and we're always hopeful that he'll come up with the goods. So despite our feelings about "London Boulevard," we're hopeful for his follow-up "Mojave," not least because of the cast he's assembling.

While America suddenly got all lathered up with S&M thanks to the colossally unit-shifting "Fifty Shades Of Grey," it would appear that overseas, that kind of kink is hardly something worth raising an eyebrow about. While Hollywood grapples with who to play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, France has already delivered a similarly-themed erotic thriller, "Tied," with hardly so much as a shrug. The clip is available below and while it doesn't really show any skin, it might still make you blush.

It’s World War II, and France faces a hostile Nazi occupation. You wouldn’t know it from the children, however, as “War of the Buttons” uses the war as a macro-micro contrast with the tale of a group of youths protecting their territory from a group of would-be mini-hooligans. The troops may be coping with casualties on all sides, and regular French citizens deal with day-to-day bullying by Gestapo strongmen attempting to suss out Jewish citizens in hiding, but none seem aware of the War of the Buttons.
