Ordinarily, toy brand + celeb voice = us falling asleep. But, it's Lego and we pretty much like everyone who is coming on board a lot, and the guys directing it are solid too. So, color us optimistic. And really, how can you not like these latest additions?

Well, that was fast. Last week, while speaking to the press, actor turned action star Liam Neeson (essentially) said thanks but no thanks to the possibility of a "Taken 3" film. Then "Taken 2" was released on Friday and came up with a impressive $50 million in its opening weekend (double the opening figure of the original), proving that audiences still love aging dads that will find you, kill you and then fuck you up if you mess with their wives and daughters.

Discuss: Will A Blockbuster Opening Weekend Change Liam Neeson's Mind About 'Taken 3'?

Few massive hits of the last few years came out of the blue in the way that "Taken" did. The Luc Besson-produced actioner starring Liam Neeson had performed decently internationally, but clearly hopes weren't especially high: Neeson hadn't toplined a hit on his own for at least a decade, if ever, and the film was snuck into theaters months after it played in the rest of the world, on Superbowl weekend 2009, the place where action movies go to die.

Box office: you just got “Taken“! Despite reviews outlining diminishing returns, to say the least, audiences were pumped for a rendezvous with Liam Neeson’s Bryan Mills, who powered the first “Taken” to a $227 million global gross. The opening for "Taken 2," is the third-largest October bow in history, but the best showing by a PG-13 movie of all time (the best overall October debut still belongs to “Paranormal Activity 3”). Even more, it grabbed just as much cash abroad with the cheapie sequel snaring $117 million overseas.

There’s diminishing returns, and then there’s “Taken 2,” the next, and probably last installment of the “Taken” franchise. Of course, it’s a piece of a whole, only the latest in the body of work from producer Luc Besson (again sharing screenwriting duties with Robert Mark Kamen). But Besson’s intriguing late-career activity as a producer of savvy action trash reaches it’s nadir in this monotone punch-fest that is tirelessly rote in it’s stubborn desire to refuse any sense of ingenuity.

Sorry guys, the statute of limitations on spoilers for one of the biggest movies of the summer is over. So yes, Liam Neeson did return in "The Dark Knight Rises," but lest you think that Christopher Nolan let the villain of "Batman Begins" in on the ground floor of why he was back after being killed in the first installment of the franchise, you would be gravely mistaken.

In the never ending quest by 20th Century Fox's marketing department to show audiences the entire movie in clip format before it opens, yet another snippet from "Taken 2" has landed, featuring another glimpse of an action scene.

Marketing movies is one part art, one part science and third part sheer luck, as studios forever try to make sure their films both find their intended audience and still have enough appeal for the magical four quadrants. But over at 20th Century Fox, they seem to care less about crafting a campaign, preferring to just show you as much of the movie as possible in advance. Just look at their rollout for "Prometheus" and "X-Men: First Class" in case you need any more proof. And so it goes with "Taken 2" as yet another clip has dropped.

Advice to bad guys: don't underestimate Kim Mills. While you might think her father Bryan Mills is the only one with a special set of skills, that shit is genetic, dog, and it looks like Kim can pretty much do a standing leap from rooftop to rooftop. Welcome to "Taken 2: Tooked In Istanbul" where logic and reason go flying out the window.

First up in a bit of a casting round-up today is news that Aussie actress Isabel Lucas (“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” and maybe Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups” if she makes the final cut) has signed up for “Careful What You Wish For.” The film will follow a self-conscious high school student who gets more than he bargained for when he starts an affair with the wife of a businessman (the role we’re assuming Lucas has taken), and discovers a devastating secret after a serious crime rocks their small town. Directed by Elizabeth Allen (“Aquamarine,” “Ramona and Beezus”), the film is described as a “sexy thriller reminiscent of “Basic Instinct,”” but we’d be surprised if Lucas lays herself quite as bare as Sharon Stone did.
