Logan Lerman might be known for the forgettable “Percy Jackson” films (a sequel arrives this summer), but he almost scored the coveted lead in “The Amazing Spider-Man” a few years ago and he impressed with his acting chops in “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.” Casting directors and filmmakers have noticed. He’s getting called up into the big leagues and will join Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf in the WWII tank thriller “Fury” that “End of Watch” filmmaker David Ayer is writing and directing for Sony Pictures. The movie is already set for a Fall 2014 release and it’s an interesting one because it will be Ayer’s first non police-centered movie. Let’s hope unlike the almost great “End Of Watch,” the visual material doesn’t stand in the way of a good story and strong dynamic.

If you barely remember “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” we don’t blame you. It came out over three years ago and raked in only $88 million in the domestic box office, making a large majority of its money in the foreign market. So now we have the sequel, “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,” which comes out this summer and the first images from the movie have just landed online. Hopefully, viewing these photos will help refresh your memory regarding the franchise.

Trying to get noticed amongst hundreds of films is tough, and though it premiered last fall at the Toronto International Film Festival, the indie dramedy "Writers" didn't make much of a splash. And while there hasn't been much heard about the film since then, a trailer has wormed its way online, giving a pretty extensive look at the film.

Teenagers have generally not been well served by the movies. Folks like Cameron Crowe, John Hughes and Judd Apatow aside, adolescent life is usually positioned around the goals of having sex, partying and getting into outlandish hijinks with little-to-no actual insight into how teenagers think or feel. In fact, it has been a long time since we've really had a movie that got it right, but delivering beyond expectations, "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" is about as authentic as it gets, bringing a fresh, funny and moving look at the ups and downs of friendship and family in high school.

Every good teen movie needs a soundtrack of great tunes to go with it. For the upcoming "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower," it looks like the filmmakers have to put together one helluva mixtape that will make those who came of age in the '80s and '90s swoon, and perhaps turn some younger music fans on to some decent artists.

Sometimes, movies can spend years being put together (ahem, Terrence Malick), while on the other hand, they can occasionally be knocked out in no time flat. Welcome, to "Writers," the indie flick which shot back in the spring, and is gearing up for a World Premiere at TIFF in the fall.

As students head into summer and free of worrying about homework, teachers, tests and whatever else is on their mind, next fall, a whole new batch of kids will be entering high school for the first time. It can be a terrifying, alienating experience, making the already rough years of adolescence even more difficult, but at least at the cinema, there will be a movie that understands exactly what they're going through.
