Elysium, Matt Damon
“Elysium,” Sony's heady sci-fi film directed by “District 9” helmer Neill Blomkamp is finally unveiling itself. Just last week, we called the film “cagey” and said it might have kept itself under wraps for almost too long. Evidently we were right and this was by design. Today, the studio unveiled the trailer and 10 minutes of footage to journalists in Los Angeles (a full report later), trotted out Blomkamp and stars Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley to speak to press and released a new poster as well.

Behind The Candelabra, Michael Douglas
Steven Soderbergh has never been one to resist a challenge (ie. a 12-hour adaptation of John Barth's "The Sot-Weed Factor"), and certainly, his long-developing biopic of Liberace, "Behind the Candelabra," faced its fair share of resistance. The director has been up front about major studios turning down the movie for being "too gay," but it seems it's going to be their loss. HBO has dropped a brand new trailer for the movie and it looks nothing short of great.

Elysium, Alice Braga
After the fantastically inventive "District 9," director Neill Blomkamp's "Elysium" should be one of the most anticipated sci-films of 2013. And it is in many quarters, including ours -- see our Most Anticipated Films of 2013 list -- but it's clear that the momentum for the film has cooled, and the "will this movie ever come out" feeling has even registered.

So Steven Soderbergh's final film -- the man still has plenty of non-movie stuff he's working on -- arrives in May on HBO, but don't let television tag fool you. "Behind The Candelabra" is still widely tipped to be included somewhere in the Cannes Film Festival lineup, and while the summer movie season has no shortage of exciting offerings, if the idea of Michael Douglas and Matt Damon playing lovers in a biopic of Liberace isn't enough to put this on the top of your must-see list, we don't know what to tell you. But perhaps this will change your mind.

Actors and charitable causes have been tied together almost as long as the medium itself, but it seems like they've never been more public when it comes to awareness. From star-studded fundraisers to internet campaigns and more, you can't turn around without another issue being raised. But perhaps realizing it can be hard to cut through the noise, a couple recent spots grabbed our attention for being humorous or compelling in their approach.

Platinum Dunes let go of the rights to the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” franchise after the second film grossed less than half of the first, a downward trend they had no interest continuing. To turn things around, they were going to need a whole new approach, which involved the folks at Twisted Pictures, home of the now-defunct “Saw” series. And with an ambitious plan involving numerous sequels (of course), Leatherface is back, and it seems audiences are interested. The critically roasted moovie is the first number one film of 2013.

Review: Earnest & Well-Intentioned ‘Promised Land’ Doesn’t Quite Convince

If the narrative of the modern-day salesman in fiction is that of a man who believes in his business but finds his faith shaken once the white lies of his trade begin to grow, a man who loses his moral compass and finds himself along the way, then “Promised Land" doesn’t stray far from that mold. And at the crossroads of America, if big business represents greed, well then small-town communities must clearly represent strength and resolve.

This month, Matt Damon stars in Gus Van Sant’s eco-drama “Promised Land.” Seizing upon the hot-button issue of fracking, a dangerous and potentially environmentally hazardous method of getting natural gas out of deep subterranean pockets of earth, Damon plays an operative for the gas company who is sent to woo the citizens of a small, northern New York town into signing over their land for the process.
