All right, all right, all right... Matthew McConaughey is ready to wow the critics again in 2013, after spending last year proving to everyone he was more than just a pretty rom-com face. But will he get the hardware this time to go with the acclaim? Well, he's taking on the double duty of both a physical transformation and playing a man stricken with A.I.D.S. in "Dallas Buyer's Club," with the first trailer now landing online (mostly).

This week is a bit like Christmas for cinephiles, as two of the fall's premiere festivals get underway with Venice and Telluride ushering in the awards season. And even with all the fireworks those line-ups will be bringing, as the first word on many big titles surface, right around the corner is Toronto. Set to cause a stir there is "Dallas Buyers Club," and a few more images from the highly anticipated movie have arrived.

Stream This
Hello streamers, and welcome back to our weekly search for the best of what's available to watch on the World Wide Web. The home entertainment system reigns supreme for another day, as two late summer flicks appear on VOD before their big screen release and a well-received picture, fresh off its theatrical run, hits the streaming services in advance of its DVD debut. Of course, there's plenty going on at the cinema too—this is blockbuster season, after all. Observing the premier of "The Wolverine," we have a much better alternative: an early-ish Hugh Jackman film, you know, before all the singing and all the muscles. And with the newest Woody Allen movie in theaters, starring the inimitable Cate Blanchett, we have celebrations of both artists. It could be that two-for-one which put us over, but with so many good VOD choices, we decided to forgo a Criterion selection for this week. Hulu Plus remains, however, and that section will be back next time, we promise. Now, let's get to the picks.

Labor Day, Kate Winslet ,Josh Brolin
In case you missed it this morning, TIFF unveiled their first wave of titles, and they basically went to IMDB, looked up any remaining movies left in 2014 that you might be looking forward to, and them in their lineup. Okay, maybe that's a bit extreme but it's an incredible slate this year, and now we're starting to see some first look images of the movies that will making their way to Toronto.

With his producing gig on "Man On Steel" in theaters and proving to be a great success, Christopher Nolan's attention, as well as executive-producing "Transcendence," which stars Johnny Depp and marks the directorial debut of his DoP Wally Pfister, is now shifting to his next job in the director's chair: "Interstellar."

Leonardo DiCaprio Wolf Of Wall Street
We've somehow struggled, so far, to get excited for "The Wolf Of Wall Street." Maybe it's that we've started to take Martin Scorsese for granted -- his last few films, in "The Departed," "Shutter Island" and "Hugo" were all highly entertaining, but perhaps not up to the gold standard of the very best of his work. Perhaps it's that the film seemed to mine, on paper, territory already well-trodden by films like "Wall Street" and "Margin Call." Or maybe we're just tired.

Matthew McConaughey must be thinking, "What on Earth do I have to do?" The actor stormed back into critical and audience hearts last year by putting on his shirt, dropping the romcoms, and showing that he's damn fine actor by delivering a fantastic performance in Steven Soderbergh's "Magic Mike," a subtle and solid appearance in Richard Linklater's "Bernie," and a wonderfully hilarious and sleazy turn in William Friedkin's "Killer Joe." The former was even a massive box office success, that was also met with great reviews. The result? He was snubbed for a much deserved Oscar nomination. This year, he's again revelatory in Jeff Nichols' beautiful fable "Mud" (one of the best of the year) but his next true Oscar shot will likely come with "The Dallas Buyer's Club."

Matthew McConaughey, Mud
It all starts with a beautifully surreal image: a decrepit boat resting comfortably in the branches of a tree. The young boys who find it want to use it, make it their own. But on this particular river island in Arkansas, they are not alone. It's not long before they encounter Mud (Matthew McConaughey, sporting a large snake tattoo and a chipped front tooth a la Jim Carrey in "Dumb & Dumber"), who's not only the namesake of Jeff Nichols' brilliantly constructed, emotionally satisfying genre deconstruction, but also the film's hero and anti-hero.

For audiences and especially filmmakers, there is an aspect of deflated confusion in an actor’s misled sacrifices for an underwhelming film -- just ask Jared Leto in his role of Mark David Chapman in “Chapter 27.” Luckily, with the 2012 that Matthew McConaughey had, which saw “Bernie,” “Magic Mike,” and “Killer Joe,” that sort of fate for his AIDS drama “The Dallas Buyers Club” is unlikely, and now seems even more unlikely with the arrival of some welcome distribution news.
