Review: 'Now You See Me' Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher & Mark Ruffalo

David Copperfield once famously quipped to Johnny Carson, that the difference between a trick and an illusion is "about $40,000." And certainly, in recent years magic has gone from something defined by either birthday party tricksters or arena selling professionals, into a piece of slick entertainment that also includes legitimate street performers, reality show stars and much more. (In fact, one of the best in the world right now might be a guy you never heard of named Apollo Robbins). And it's against this new face of the industry where "Now You See Me" starts (as partially seen in the opening four minutes that dropped online), with a group of random performers -- ranging from the skyscraper theatrics of J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) to the mentalism hustle of Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson) -- individually and mysteriously brought together by a shadowy figure for what becomes the ultimate illusion.

Well, this is hardly news for anyone who is keeping up with their Christopher Nolan news, because it was teased last summer. "He's got to go on, he's got some other idea, and I'm in it!" Michael Caine said, when asked about Nolan's next film during press rounds for "The Dark Knight Rises." "I've been in everything he's done since he's been in Hollywood. We're each others' good luck charms." Well, that rabbit's foot will back on the set.

Michael Caine routinely threatens retirement, and there's always the possibility that his next film will be his last (especially after the actor turned 80 last week; read our pick of his best performances here), but frankly we don't see it coming any time soon, nor can we imagine him ever saying no to Christopher Nolan. Perhaps the open ending of "Inception" is to blame, but for whatever reason, a segment of audiences seemed to be baffled by the conclusion of this summer's "The Dark Knight Rises." At least one blogger surmised that Bruce Wayne was actually dead at the end of the film, and when Alfred looks up in an Italian cafe and sees him along with Selina Kyle, leading a new, quiet and happy life, it's his imagination (or something). But just like he did for "Inception," Caine has put all conjecture to rest about what those final moments really mean.

Next summer is, as usual, going to be competitive; there's the usual mix of superhero sequels ("Iron Man 3," "The Wolverine"), animated sequels ("Monsters University,""Despicable Me 2"), R-rated comedy sequels ("The Hangover Part III") and just general sequels ("Star Trek Into Darkness," "Fast & Furious 6," "Kick-Ass 2"). As such, original fare is going to have a trickier time of it, but Summit is getting started early with their magician heist movie "Now You See Me," debuting a trailer in front of their golden goose "Twilight" this weekend.
