X-Men: Days of Future Past
The day of “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is soon, everybody. It'll be everywhere next week, and in this day and age (rather than some alternate, sideburn-filled '70s past) that means lots and lots of clips and snippets and featurettes all over the place for the next few days. So here are some which apparently are technically called “power pieces.” Sounds like Wolverine's euphemism for his, ahem, claws.

Michael Fassbender, Derek Cianfrance
In the neverending battle of commerce versus art, which will rage on forever in cinema because it has to, cinephiles can take small comfort in the knowledge that smart and talented actors will always eventually gravitate to smart and talented filmmakers because the medium is theirs. And intelligent, thoughtful filmmakers will often, not always, but often be attracted to engaging material. Thus the combination of Michael Fassbender and Derek Cianfrance (“Blue Valentine,” “The Place Beyond The Pines”) is already one that is cause for much excitement in these here Playlist parts.

Scoot McNairy, Frank, Fassbender
You ever hear some indie pop tune and you knew in a perfect world it would be a #1 hit, but because of the way major label infrastructure with radio and music video channels worked, you knew it was destined to be a cult hit song that only you, your friends and a whole bunch of other likeminded people across the nation would cherish? That’s kind of akin to “Frank,” a movie, that in a perfect world would be a big hit.

Frank, Gyllenhaal, Fassbender
As you might already we know, we've fallen for "Frank." In our review out of Sundance, we called the film "an off-the-wall and terrific paean to the misfits and freaks of the world," but even that doesn't quite begin to scratch the surface of this wildly original movie. But today, a couple of helpful pieces of video are here to give you a sense of the tone of the upcoming movie.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past,
"X-Men: Days Of Future Past" will be bringing in an orgy of mutants, with (nearly) everyone who has possessed a power at one time or another stopping by in Bryan Singer's time travel franchise entry. But when "X-Men: Apocalypse" drops in a couple of years, the focus will return back to the young, 'First Class' crowd and they take center stage in this latest clip.

Frank, Michael Fassbender
OK, in case you haven’t heard, earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, Michael Fassbender starred in a movie called “Frank” about an outsider rock band that crosses paths with an ambitious young wannabe musician and how that chance meeting changes both their lives forever. Oh, yeah, and it’s easily one of the best movies of the year. Much will be made about how Fassbender wears a papier-mâché head for about 95% of the movie, but somehow, the genius of it all, is that it’s still one of his finest performances.

Macbeth
"Macbeth" is now in production, with Michael Fassbender in the lead role, and the actor is careful in judging his character too quickly or harshly. "I don’t think Macbeth is evil. I think he’s damaged," he told the Daily Mail. "When we meet him, he’s a man who’s as good as his circumstances will allow. He serves his king loyally and looks after his soldiers."

X-Men Days Of Future Past
Don't be fooled. While Fox is touting this as the final trailer for "X-Men: Days Of Future Past," there is still a long month ahead before it hits theatres. And in that time, we're sure there will be no shortage of featurettes, clips, Instagram vids, Vines, skywriting and more for Bryan Singer's ambitious franchise entry. But before that, yes, it's the final trailer for the movie.
