Engineered for maximum velocity, super-torqued hairpin turns and high-octane thrills (obviously), thanks to the likes of the “Fast & Furious,” you should know exactly what to expect from the upcoming junior series, “Need For Speed” aka “Hot Wheels: The Movie.” But if the ‘F&F’ series is often absurdly entertaining with riotous cinematic maximalism in the pole position, “Need For Speed” is comparatively humorless, arguably dumber and doesn’t boast the same visual horsepower.

Need For Speed
As of 2009, 140 million copies of the "Need For Speed" video game had been sold, and who knows how many countless more million units have been shifted since, but will that audience show up to see the big-screen version of their favorite pedal pushing console time waster? That's the riddle Hollywood eternally tries to solve with each video game adaptation though they're hoping they got it right here.

Robocop
Every movie should be approached with an open mind. Ideally, be it a film from Martin Scorsese or Friedberg and Seltzer, a reviewer should be going in without expectations, ready to play it as it lays. But it'd be dishonest to pretend that that was the case going in to "RoboCop," because it's a long-delayed remake of Paul Verhoeven's 1980s cult action sci-fi classic that, based at least on early buzz and previews, does without much of what made the original special — the satirical bite, the extreme violence, the hand-crafted effects et al. As such, even the most even-handed person could be forgiven for going in with a heavy heart, especially with the smell of the abysmal "Total Recall" redo still lingering like a fish head behind a radiator.

Yes, we know Aaron Paul has a name but let's face it, we still can't forget "Breaking Bad" and neither can most folks considering how much the "alternate ending" to the series was passed around over the weekend. So, for our purposes at the moment, "Need For Speed" stars Jesse Pinkman and once again he's going to be yelling at stuff, have a pretty girl at this side all while trying to outfox a wily criminal.

Robocop, 2014
While we didn't necessarily want this remake, it has been made, and we have to admit, we're intrigued by "RoboCop." The talent for this is certainly undeniable with "Elite Squad" helmer Jose Padilha guiding a helluva cast—Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel and Samuel L. Jackson—through futuristic Detroit. But can it even begin to come close to Paul Verhoeven's twisted perfection? Well, this new trailer is going to make a case for it.

In the 28 years that Tim Burton has been making feature-length films he’s made a sequel only once: “Batman Returns,” the 1992 sequel to “Batman” in 1989. Of course there is “Frankenweenie,” but that’s a feature-length remake/expansion Burton's 1984 short film of the same name. And while the Halloween-friendly filmmaker has managed to avoid sequels for two decades since, he’s about to jump into that fray once more with a sequel to 1988’s “Beetlejuice.”

Review: 'Clear History' Starring Larry David, Jon Hamm, Danny McBride, Kate Hudson, Michael Keaton & Eva Mendes

There are few people who have refined to hilarious perfection the intersection of circumstance, happenstance and neuroses quite like Larry David. As a writer/producer on "Seinfeld" and writer/producer/star of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," he has created two extensive catalogs to a body of work where anxiety, superficial concerns and selfishness are also instantly relatable, and often gaspingly funny. And while the future of 'Curb' remains in limbo—David has remained undecided on another season, though the door at HBO is wide open for him to walk through at any time—he's instead focused his energy on feature-length movie for the network, that on paper seems like a homerun. Reteaming with "Seinfeld" and 'Curb' writer/producers Alec Berg, David Mandel and Jeff Schaffer, and lining up a staggering cast, the fact that "Clear History" misses the mark as wide as it does isn't so much a disappointment as a complete mystery.

Bet you forgot all about this one, but guess what, so did we. First announced way back in 2011, seemingly shot, completed and then left to collect dust, the thriller "Penthouse North" starring Michael Keaton and Michelle Monaghan now has an international trailer. And thank goodness they are both on to much, much better things.

Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, and Zach Galifianakis will star in Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu’s BIRDMAN.
Generally known for his tough, harrowing dramas like “Amores Perros,” “21 Grams,” “Babel” and “Biutiful,” we've been waiting patiently to see what Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu would be doing next. His options of late have included the con man/criminal drama "Flim-Flam Man" and the period vengeance tale "The Revenant," but it looks like his next feature will find him changing gears in and taking something a lot more lighthearted.

DreamWorks’ upcoming “Need For Speed” had already been busy lining up a pretty decent cast, and that was enough to make us optimistic that this video game adaptation might be the one to buck the trend. Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper and Imogen Poots were the big three so far to give their seal of approval and sign on to star in the Scott Waugh (“Act of Valor”) directed picture, as well as the likes of Rami Malek (“The Master”), Kid Cudi and Ramon Rodriguez. Now the film has gone and added an unexpected name to the cast. Who knows whether he just needs the pay-check or whether he too thinks there’s more to this project than meets the eye, but Michael Keaton will also be feeling the need for speed.
