Jonny Lee Miller Joins Ensemble Cast Of Tim Burton's 'Dark Shadows,' Filming Gets Underway This Week

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have been talking about teaming up for an adaptation of 1960s vampire soap "Dark Shadows" for years now, but for a while, it was unclear if the always-busy megastar would find room in his schedule for the film. But if "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Alice in Wonderland" taught us anything in the last few years, it's that if the pair are attached to a VFX-heavy, production design-reliant project that plays right into their comfort zones, it'll happen sooner or later. And indeed, "Dark Shadows" begins production in the U.K. this week.

Update: Deadline reports that, while talks haven't formally begun, Helena Bonham Carter is expected to play "Hoffman, a specialist in psychology and rare blood disorders who moves into Collinwood." She becomes an ally to Barnabas and may even be able to cure his thirst for blood.

The DreamWorks drama "Welcome To People" goes before cameras imminently, and it should prove to be interesting, marking a move into more serious fare for a whole group of actors who, until now, have been more recognized for their involvement in tentpoles and comedies. Following a young businessman who returns home after the death of his father, the film marks the directorial debut of Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote the script with Roberto Orci and newcomer Jody Lambert; Kurtzman and Orci being best known so far for writing the likes of "Transformers" and "Star Trek."

This has fueled the massive ensemble casts for a string of dreadful romantic comedies in the last few years, including "He's Just Not That Into You" and "Valentine's Day." Audiences go based on the commercials, having no idea that their favorite actor has only five minutes of screen time, and worse, they are somehow forced to share it with George Lopez.
