While the trailer for Sam Raimi's revisionist fairy tale "Oz: The Great and Powerful" has split most folks down the middle, there's no denying that the director has a huge vision for his yellow brick road and the fabled story, even if that means tossing in some flying baboons.

Comic-Con kicked off in full force today, and you don't have to be in San Diego to get the goodies. Not long after they showed off a sizzle reel to the crowd in Hall H, Disney went ahead and dumped the first trailer for "Oz The Great And Powerful" online, and yeah, it's actually pretty impressive.

Due in theaters this weekend in Canada and in limited release in the U.S. (and currently available on VOD), by now you hopefully know that Sarah Polley’s sophomore release “Take This Waltz” is one of our favorite films of the year so far. Starring Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Canadian actor Luke Kirby, and comedienne Sarah Silverman (in a great dramatic performance) the film is an unflinchingly raw look at love, infidelity and the often selfish choices we make in our lives (read our review here).

It's been over a decade since Ingmar Bergman muse Liv Ullmann has been behind the camera with the actress-director staying relatively quiet throughout featuring only in a handful of film roles as well. Color us surprised as hell then when Ullmann revealed plans of a comeback in a recent interview in the Boston Globe noting that she'll be "doing a movie next year in Ireland as a director."

Did you know that Michael Haneke originally turned his back on Palme d'Or-winning "Amour" because he had seen an unnamed Canadian film that treads the same ground? At the time, we came up with two possibilities for the work being referenced: Denys Arcand's "The Barbarian Invasions" or Sarah Polley's "Away From Her," but with Cannes now over, we're convinced as ever that the film in question is Polley's directorial debut.

The honor for Most Surprising Sequel Announcement Of 2012 was briefly held by "Anchorman 2" until yesterday afternoon when out of nowhere, Robert Rodriguez and company revealed that production on the long developing, forever talked about "Sin City" followup -- now titled "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" -- was going to go in front of cameras with casting to start next week. And that news nearly made us forget about the other sequel Rodriguez is gearing up, "Machete Kills," and once again, he's hoping to land some big names.

One film that is quietly winning over the members of the Playlist as we all catch up with it is Sarah Polley's romantic drama "Take This Waltz." It already won over our man at TIFF James Rocchi who called it "a modernist version of a late '60s or early '70s relationship film" that delivers "a knockout punch." And now, a new trailer has arrived offering another strong and compelling look at the film.

The awards season train continues for "The Artist," and while in years past the Spirit Awards have tended to honor edgier or more decidedly independent fare, this year it looks like even they have the fever for the silent movie sensation. Taking home the big prizes for Best Picture, Best Director (Michel Hazanavicius), Best Actor (Jean Dujardin) and Best Cinematography (Guillaume Schiffman) it looks like the stage has been set for the film to repeat these honors, and maybe more, tomorrow night at the venue formerly known as the Kodak Theater.
