Transcendence
We are the company we keep, and in the case of Wally Pfister, he and his professional cronies are some of the most iconic around. As DP alongside Christopher Nolan, his outlook working with key actors promises a certain atmosphere, a unique method. So here we are: a gloomy thriller trying to ground its at-times-daffy premise, emphasis on a grieving protagonist, with supporting turns from Morgan Freeman and Cillian Murphy. These aren’t rumored plot details from Nolan’s “Interstellar,” however. No, in mounting his feature directorial debut, “Transcendence,” Pfister has chosen to tackle familiarity head on, carving out a new arena for himself while rigging the grounds with pitfalls at every step.

Transcendence
Since their first partnership on 2000’s “Memento," the work of Oscar-winning DP Wally Pfister has helped shape and define the trademark style of Christopher Nolan and his output. His influence has proved so pronounced that Nolan’s upcoming “Interstellar” will mark an unclear break in DNA, it being “The Dark Knight” director’s first outing in 14 years without his usual collaborator.

Transcendence
We’re less than two weeks away from the theatrical release of “Transcendence” and Warner Brothers has dropped seven new clips from the film, plus a TV spot, a poster, and a fifteen-second viral video. The clips give us a good glimpse of this impeccable cast which includes Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Paul Bettany, Morgan Freeman, and Cillian Murphy. And if you’re still not 100% sure as to what this film is all about, hopefully these clips can help fill in the blanks.

Fargo
Is this the exception to the rule, that a TV spinoff from a movie could actually be good? We're really hoping so, because so far, we really like what we see from "Fargo," the forthcoming FX show based on the Coen Brothers wintry crime classic. And after a handful of teasers, the first bonafide trailer is here and it looks like it's hitting all the right buttons.

"Everything is awesome!" goes the official theme song to "The Lego Movie," and while critics will eventually decide if that's actually the case, it's had to deny that spirit that's powering the Warner Bros. flick. Even though the entire movie is built around one of the most popular toys of all time, there's a weird innocent sweetness permeating from "The Lego Movie," which is certainly a nice change from the usual crass commercialism these kinds of movies project.

Transcendence Wally Pfister Rebecca Hall Paul Bettany
"....singularity, is a theoretical moment in time when artificial intelligence will have progressed to the point of a greater-than-human intelligence, radically changing civilization, and perhaps human nature. Since the capabilities of such an intelligence may be difficult for a human to comprehend, the technological singularity is often seen as an occurrence (akin to a gravitational singularity) beyond which the future course of human history is unpredictable or even unfathomable." So goes the the first couple lines of the Wikipedia entry on the subject, and the question is: can Wally Pfister turn that thematic material into a big screen, mainstream success in "Transcendence"?

If this is a joke, it's the best one we've heard all day. If it's real ... God help us all. And sadly, this one is legit, so get ready folks, there is more nefarious anti-government plotting afoot, and there's only one man who can stop him ...

Savannah Review: 'Last Vegas' Starring Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman & Kevin Kline

With "The Hangover" boys having seemingly exploited every debauchery laden avenue Las Vegas has to offer and then some, another party-happy movie set in the city might seem like a tired notion. Particularly when it's combined with a premise as wheezy and obvious as this, getting four older men together for one last hurrah in the city where your sins remain secret. But somehow, "Last Vegas" is better than it has any right to be. Yes, it's uneven, more jokes miss than hit, and it winds up taking easy dramatic shortcuts from the more interesting avenues that the script presents, but it's thanks to the lead quartet that the comedy is as engaging at it is.

What happens when a bunch of old people discover Red Bull, hip hop and lithe young women? Well, we'll find out in the upcoming comedy "Last Vegas", which pits Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Kevin Kline and Morgan Freeman against Sin City. Frankly, we rather suppose we all lose in this one.
