Before she was an Academy Award-winning actress, A-list star and mother, Natalie Portman was just like any other kid trying to make it in the business. Except, she was far more self-aware of her talent and dreams than most. The story goes she turned down a child modelling gig with Revlon to focus on her acting and well, the gambit worked.

Natalie Portman may not have been seen on the big screen since "Thor" in 2011, but she's got a slate of projects on the way. Of course, there's the double dose of Terrence Malick projects waiting in the wings, and later this year "Thor: The Dark World," while she's currently shooting the troubled western "Jane Got A Gun." It's a diverse array of stuff, so what's next? How about something described as "Heathers" meets "Fight Club"?

We were a bit depressed about the reception to "To The Wonder." When Terrence Malick's latest premiered in Venice last year, we found it beguiling and beautiful, and arguably superior to his previous picture "The Tree Of Life." But the critical consensus didn't agree with us, and the film picked up some harsh notices, and in the month since it was released, has made only $500,000 at the U.S. box office.

It seems that after Michael Fassbender bailed on the troubled western "Jane Got A Gun," there were no hard feelings between himself and Natalie Portman, who is also producing that movie. They also paired up on Terrence Malick's forthcoming music scene movie (provided they don't get cut) and indeed, they're set to try working together again on a different project, one that will hopefully keep the drama in front of the camera, instead of behind it.

Starting with a preview in the Phase One boxset, Marvel has been efficiently building up to the first trailer for "Thor: The Dark World" with a poster and fresh stills in the last few days. And now it's officially here (after partially leaking late last night), and yes, it's bringing the epic.

With the "Iron Man 3" campaign pretty much wrapped as the sequel opens this week internationally, Marvel is now putting their marketing efforts into "Thor: The Dark World," which isn't due in theaters for another seven months. But hey, there's no time like the present.

While their working relationship has yet to translate into a big screen outing, Sofia Coppola and Natalie Portman have made quite the formidable pair for Dior. They teamed up a couple of years ago for a campaign for Miss Dior Cherie (Coppola has been doing work for the fashion house for years) and they've paired up once again to sell some more scented water.

Forbes loves to number crunch and then spit it back to the masses. Earlier this year, the business publication sourced the list from its Celebrity 100 rankings (Jennifer Lopez topped their list, curiously), and came up with the posit that Eddie Murphy is the Most Overpaid Actor in Hollywood, having taken in with his recent films only $2.30 for every dollar appointed to him (we're sure his agents cringed when the list was published.

The Marvel train is now on full throttle, and even when a movie isn't in theaters, it's arriving on DVD or there's news about the next superhero flick or there's something else to check out. You have to hand it to the studio, they've developed the brand into something that's always somewhere in the pop culture sphere, and it's something that helped "The Avengers" become a massive worldwide phenomenon. And so even though the Marvel Phase One box set was delayed, the savvy folks at the company have turned yesterday's announcement of a new release date into an opportunity to keep talking about "Thor."

By the time Terrence Malick finishes with "Knight Of Cups" and his currently filming, untitled love-triangle movie, pretty much every actor, musician and sideshow attraction will have logged time in front of his cameras. The director seems to love hanging out with famous people almost as much as he loves cutting them out of his movies, and now the oddest set photo you'll see all year reveals another bizarro addition to his cast.
