The World's End, Nick Frost
We've got Supermen and Jaegers and Wolverines still to come this summer, but it's fairly likely that we'd trade them all for a chance to see Edgar Wright's "The World's End" a touch earlier. We've been looking forward to the third installment of the so-called Cornetto trilogy since, well, probably the minute we walked out of "Hot Fuzz" back in 2007, and the film's now less than two months away.

The World’s End
And so it ends, and we're not just talking about the end of the world. Edgar Wright and his longtime friends and collaborators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are finally putting the capper on their fabled, informally known Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy. Starting with "Shaun Of The Dead" and continued with "Hot Fuzz," each film saw them take on a genre (zombie movies, buddy cop flicks) and turn them on its head, to thrilling and very, very funny results. And now it's all coming to a conclusion with "The World's End."

The World’s End
Edgar Wright’s loose “Cornetto” trilogy is coming to an end. In a recent CapeTown Film Fest conversation (can someone please explain what “CapeTown” means? Is that code for nerd gathering?), Wright explained the origin of the ice cream jokes in his trilogy while discussing his latest film in the triptych, “The World’s End.”

Everybody's talking about Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" test footage, shot last year for Marvel, unveiled at Comic-Con and then recently leaked online. It was swiftly taken down by Marvel lawyers of course, but those who got to peek at the brief footage were able to witness something that looks beyond promising. But Wright's got bigger fish to fry than a movie that won't arrive in theaters until 2015: namely his upcoming feature "The World's End." Perhaps attesting to Wright's speed -- it was shot last September -- the film appears to be already complete and its U.S. date has been moved up two months, with the stem to stern of the picture arriving in under just 12 months.

It seems that, at least on the big screen, the end of the world just isn't worth it without your friends. Last year we saw a bit of that in "Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World," while the Apatow gang will push that notion further this summer with "This Is The End." And this fall, Edgar Wright will round up the boys for a pint in "The World's End," and some new images are here to give you a sneak peek.

Well, it's a wrap. Production has ended on Edgar Wright's "The World's End" and star Simon Pegg has tweeted out the first look from the film. It's not terribly exciting as a photo, but it does showcase the fantastic English cast which includes Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, "The Hobbit" star Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan. Not pictured, but still included in this solid cast is Rosamund Pike.

It's now nearly two years since "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World," the firecracker kung-fu romantic comedy that became a critical and fan favorite, even if it never quite set the box-office alight. The film's still playing monthly at rep theaters like the New Beverley in L.A, an instant cult classic, but for nearly 24 months, there's been very little news as to what Wright might do next. He's not been out of the spotlight, thanks to his scripting of "The Adventures of Tintin" and executive producing of "Attack The Block" and "Sightseers," the latter of which will premiere at Cannes in the next couple of weeks. And there have been projects percolating: more writing work has happened on Marvel's "Ant-Man," and the mysterious "Baby Driver" is also on the dance card somewhere, while the director was snapped up by megastar Johnny Depp to direct a new film version of "The Night Stalker" a few months back.

Chris O'Dowd is on his way to becoming a very big deal. The Irish comic actor first came to notice, alongside Richard Ayoade, in cult TV show "The IT Crowd," and after early movie appearances in "The Boat That Rocked" and "Gulliver's Travels," has gone from strength to strength; he got to show dramatic range in "The Crimson Petal and White," and after playing the swoonsome cop love interest in "Bridesmaids," has become something of a favorite of the Judd Apatow gang, with roles in "Friends With Kids," "This Is Forty" and "Girls" all coming up.
