Opera legend Maria Callas has been a talent many have sought to bring to the big screen, with a couple of biopics brewing in the past few years including one by Niki Caro that needs script work and has Eva Green on board, and another with Eva Mendes attached to star. However, before either of those projects come to fruition, it looks like Callas will first be played by Paz Vega in Olivier Dahan's "Grace Of Monaco" starring Nicole Kidman as "Rear Window" actress turned Monaco princess, Grace Kelly.

A two-part movie entitled "The Nymphomaniac" that's aiming to hit the Cannes Film Festival in 2013...yep, that sounds about right for everyone's favorite (well, almost everyone) cinematic enfant terrible, Lars Von Trier. And now his brewing picture, which is set to star Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard and Willem Dafoe, may get a blast from Von Trier's past.

Few actresses seem to make as diverse an array of choices as Nicole Kidman. The actress has spent the last decade or two as one of the few actresses who can truly call themselves A-list, but swings between incredibly bold, interesting choices with world-class filmmakers, and nearly irredeemable crap ("Bewtiched," "The Stepford Wives," "The Invasion," "Trespass"). She rarely gives a turn that's anything less than totally committed, but one always feels a little nervous settling in for a new Kidman flick.

Cannes Review: Sprawling 'Hemingway & Gellhorn' Worthy Of The Rough & Tumble Life Of Two Great Writers

Ernest Hemingway is the kind of grandiose figure that it seems it would be difficult to contain within the framework of a feature film, and the decision to pair his life with that of his ex-wife Martha Gellhorn only adds to the task at hand. But with the leisure of a two-and-a-half hour running time, a starry ensemble, the guiding hands of director Philip Kaufman ("The Right Stuff," "The Unbearable Lightness Of Being") and the support of HBO, "Hemingway & Gellhorn" is a messy, but still worthwhile film about the two writers that does a strong job of bringing their complex, explosive and committed relationship to the big screen.

Cannes Review: Lee Daniels' 'The Paperboy' With Matthew McConaughey & Nicole Kidman Is A Disastrous Flop

Many people will tell you that "The Paperboy" -- based on Pete Dexter's novel, brought to the screen by "Precious" director Lee Daniels -- is a trash masterpiece, an instant camp classic, so bad it's good. These people, these critics, are simply not to be trusted about any question of judgment for a long time based on that half-hearted ironic "endorsement" of one of the worst films of the year, never mind at Cannes. Like the patina on a bronze roof, there are two ways to acquire trashterpiece/camp/so-bad-it's-good status. One is through time, and patience, as entropy and erosion bring down the bright gleam to a more interesting set of colors and nuanced shades; the other is to spray it on artificially with a hose, with plenty of spillage and waste, toxic and cheap and jumped-up and unconvincing.

It's a shame Park Chan-wook couldn't get his English-language debut "Stoker" ready in time for Cannes but his leading lady, Nicole Kidman, has still managed to have two films appear on the Croisette this year. While everyone's been talking up her role in "The Paperboy," Kidman also stars opposite Clive Owen in HBO's "Hemingway & Gellhorn" which premieres there before airing next week on the cable channel.

2010 certainly wasn’t a lackluster year for film, perhaps that’s why “Shortbus” helmer John Cameron Mitchell’s emotionally gripping “Rabbit Hole” was seemingly swept aside. Telling the story of a grieving couple coming to terms after their young son dies in a horrific accident, it was a heartbreaking tale that we liked quite a bit, and so we were pleased to hear last February that Kidman would be teaming up again with “Rabbit Hole” producers for the familial comedy-drama “The Family Fang.” Now it looks as if producers are hoping to add a little more of what made their previous film work so well, in the form of a script by “Rabbit Hole” playwright and screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire.
