Well, this will be an interesting little experiment. While both have been part of hit films, neither Noomi Rapace or Colin Farrell are necessarily marquee names. Sure, Rapace was part of the successful Swedish version of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" and is currently starring in "Prometheus," but that movie is sold on concept, not her name. As for Farrell, he's always been a wildcard, hard to predict, and he was likely more known last summer for his brief supporting role in "Horrible Bosses" than as the wicked villain of "Fright Night."

Well, "Prometheus" is in theaters. And if nothing else, it's been causing more furious debate -- in multiplex lobbies, in bars, online -- than most movies in recent memory. And The Playlist head office has been a warzone, with some loving the film, some loathing it, and some (like our review) falling somewhere in the middle. Name-calling and threats of physical violence have ensued.

Over thirty years after the 'space jockey' first appeared in "Alien," and after a couple of months of speculation and rumor, Ridley Scott's "Prometheus," his return to sci-fi for the first time since "Blade Runner", and his continuation/prequel/spin-off/whatever to his 1979 space horror classic, finally hits theaters today. It's one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year, and is already inspiring fierce debate (The Playlist team are split down the middle on the project, with wildly divided reactions from those who've seen it).

Androids. Anyone that saw Ridley Scott's "Alien" and "Blade Runner" knows that the director is fairly dubious about the apparent artificial intelligence that will be commonplace in the future. With Scott's "Prometheus" currently playing overseas and only a week away from release on this side of the Atlantic, it's clear that the director is still suspicious about man playing God, as evidenced by the beautiful but creepy viral video concerning Michael Fassbender's android character David. Now, Fox has released four new preview clips from "Prometheus," some of which highlight the possible duplicity of Fassbender's David, while the others point to a grim outcome for the characters, no matter whether the threat is human or android. And in case you're wondering: yes, these are pretty spoilery, so don't watch if you want to go into the movie fresh.

Ambition is a rare thing in movies these days, especially when it comes to summer blockbuster fare. There might be ambitions to blow up bigger things, or include more bad guys, or feature more stars, but in terms of real ambition -- telling big stories, about big subjects, on a huge canvas -- only a handful of filmmakers are really playing ball. Far more so than its predecessor "Alien," which is, after all, pretty much a haunted house designed to scare the living hell out of you, Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" has big ambitions. It wants to ask the big questions -- where do we come from? Why are we here? -- while also serving as a 3D, CGI-filled thrill ride.

In a couple of days critics will start seeing "Prometheus," in less than a week it opens internationally, and soon the lid will be off the box of Ridley Scott's return to sci-fi as we'll finally experience what the director has conjured up in his kinda-sorta "Alien" prequel. While diehard fans have been covering their ears and eyes hoping to go in fresh, the Fox marketing team has been on a blitzkrieg dropping numerous TV spots, clips and images from the movie. And well, a few more details have squeaked out in the New York Times profile of Noomi Rapace, adding another dimension to the upcoming film. Warning: there are spoilers so stop reading here if you don't want to know anything more.

The movie is reaching 'Dark Knight' levels of hysteria, and as you may have noticed, it's been regularly filling up the Playlist home page. A new profile with The Hollywood Reporter now sheds a little more light on the film and Scott's upcoming plans to get your interest further piqued.

Well, 20th Century Fox certainly aren't changing up the game plan too much. Just like they did last year, with their summer tentpole "X-Men: First Class," the studio is going to make sure that before June arrives we get at least a few hundred images, probably a dozen clips and god knows what else for "Prometheus." And yeah, it drives us fucking bananas but here we are posting about it. The irony is rich, we know.

In case you haven't figured it out by this point, the Fox marketing department's tactic for promoting "Prometheus" is essentially a winner-takes-all, carpet bomb campaign that will crush you with pics, clips, teasers and God knows what else, until you don't even want to see the movie anymore. Okay, who are we kidding, you'll still want to see this, but we kind of just wish we could fast-forward the clock already.
