Inside Llewyn Davis, Oscar Isaac
Long hours on the road, sleeping on sofas, eating very little, playing shows for little money; it's a wonder why anyone struggles to make it as a musician. But for Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac) there really isn't any other option to playing music. "...And what, just exist?" he counters, when his sister suggests he stops couch surfing, borrowing money and barely getting by, and re-enter the Merchant Marine. While Llewyn can't quite put into words the passion that sustains an existence perpetually on the fringes, hustling for the next dollar, it's that weary energy that drives the Coen Brothers' "Inside Llewyn Davis."

So how good is it to be Oscar Isaac right now? Thus far, he's worked with directors Nicolas Winding Refn, Ridley Scott, Zack Snyder, Steven Soderbergh and of course, the Coen Brothers on their upcoming "Inside Llewyn Davis." And with that film set to light up Cannes next week and likely to send Isaac into orbit, he's putting his name to a biopic about someone Hollywood has been trying to make a movie about for years.

Inside Llewyn Davis, Oscar Isaac
In just over a week, the Coens will present their latest "Inside Llewyn Davis" to the always fussy audiences at the Cannes Film Festival. While we'll have to wait until we actually see the thing, it's looking like another success from the sibling directors. CBS Films is already thinking Oscar, but if you're not going to France and can't wait until December, this red band trailer should hold over.

Robert De Niro, Alicia Vikander, Kristen Connolly
Writer/director Stephen Gaghan has given us the scripts to Steven Soderbergh’s “Traffic” "Rules of Engagement," and "The Alamo," but turned full-fledged filmmaker with 2005's excellent political drama, "Syriana." He hasn’t directed a film since, but not for want of trying. Gaghan’s been attached to several projects over the years, but for whatever reason, none of them have come to fruition. He may have struck gold with the cast of his his latest, “Candy Store.” The picture already stars “Zero Dark Thirty” star Jason Clarke and Omar Sy (“The Intouchables”), but his latest casting coup is even more impressive; Robert De Niro. The acting legend is joining the cast for a story about an undercover agent (Clarke) who begins a new life as beat cop in Brooklyn, but finds that his past life comes back to haunt him. De Niro plays a former cop who teams up with him to stop the threat that could endanger the city of New York. [Variety]

Making your first feature film is no easy task. Everything from the script to casting requires careful attention to detail, and meanwhile, you're looking to prove to yourself and others that you have what it takes to get the job done. However, if your name is Alex Garland, things are made slightly easier. The screenwriter behind "28 Days Later...," "Never Let Me Go" and "Dredd" has a CV that speaks for itself, and it's no surprise that he's getting some nice talent for his debut directorial effort "Ex Machina."

While she hasn't been seen on the big screen since 2012's movie-you-already-forgot-about "Safe House," Vera Farmiga has a helluva 2013 lined up. This spring sees her raise a pyscho in the A&E series "Bates Motel," while this summer she'll continue to chill in the horror flick "The Conjuring." And just as those two projects head to screens big and small, the actress is eager to get back on set.

Every year, amongst the countless films that see a theatrical release -- no matter how small -- there are a select few that are destined for that no man’s land known as direct-to-video. The latest entry in this grand tradition is “Revenge For Jolly!,” a film which our man in Tribeca was not a fan of, calling it “the most excruciating 80+ minutes you’ll spend in a theater this year.” And now, a new trailer for the film has dropped online, so see how bad it is for yourself below.
