Long hours on the road, sleeping on sofas, eating very little, playing shows for little money; it's a wonder why anyone struggles to make it as a musician. But for Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac) there really isn't any other option to playing music. "...And what, just exist?" he counters, when his sister suggests he stops couch surfing, borrowing money and barely getting by, and re-enter the Merchant Marine. While Llewyn can't quite put into words the passion that sustains an existence perpetually on the fringes, hustling for the next dollar, it's that weary energy that drives the Coen brothers' "Inside Llewyn Davis."

While he doesn't create his own obstacles to success that Llewyn Davis might, Oscar Isaac likely related to being perpetually on the cusp of stardom before landing the lead role in the latest from the Coen brothers. With films like "Robin Hood," "Drive," "Che" and "The Bourne Legacy" filling his CV, and experience working with filmmakers like Ridley Scott (twice), Steven Soderbergh, Nicolas Winding Refn and more, it's clear to anyone who caught those performances that it was just a matter of time until Isaac got the opportunity to show what he could do with a leading part. And luckily for him and us, the Coens did just that by putting him front and center of "Inside Llewyn Davis."

25 Breakthrough Artists of 2013
One of the great pleasures of being a movie fan is the discovery of new performers. Faces that, months earlier, you'd have passed by in the street, suddenly gifted the role of a lifetime, and whose lives will never be the same again. It feels to us that 2013 was an especially strong year for new faces: festivals like Sundance, SXSW and Cannes, not to mention films that went straight to wide release, unleashed a veritable hurricane of talent that we'll be seeing for years to come.

This winter we'll be seeing two different sides to Oscar Isaac: first as a folk singer continually on the edge of fame and just barely shuffling through life, and then, as a sexually charged young man who physically and emotionally saves the life of a young woman trapped in an empty marriage. And in both, things don't quite end the way you expect.

After working with Nicolas Winding Refn, Ridley Scott, Zack Snyder, Steven Soderbergh and hell, even Madonna, you would think that plenty of doors are already open for Oscar Isaac. Well, we're sure teaming with the Coen Brothers for "Inside Llewyn Davis" (and knocking it out of the park) kicked down a few more.

The year 2013 may have flew by fast, but not if you’re a fan of the Coen Brothers. The first trailer for “Inside Llewyn Davis” dropped this past January, then the film had its first private screening the following month, and then made its festival premiere at Cannes in May. Since then, unless you’ve been lucky enough to see it during its festival run, you have had to wait throughout the entire calendar year to catch a glimpse of this film. Thankfully, a whole boatload of promotional materials have just been dropped so you can keep yourself occupied until the film finally lands at a theater near you.

Inside Llewyn Davis
While we live in a culture where numerous clips, photos and more land online weeks and months before a movie hits theaters, sometimes things are best experienced cold. And while you've likely already heard some rumblings about the performance of "Please Mr. Kennedy" in "Inside Llewyn Davis," if you can wait, we urge you to watch it first in the actual movie.

Garnering massive notices from nearly every festival that it’s played, it was with a bit of puzzlement then that “Inside Llewyn Davis” only received two Independent Spirit Award nominations. We’re thinking the Golden Globes and Oscars are more the Coen Brothers’ ballpark anyway, but in the absence of any recent directing or screenplay nominations for their work, we’ve got two new clips from the film to showcase the consistent quality of both elements.

Oscars: 10 Overlooked Actors
In the few weeks since we put a spotlight on the Best Actor race, a competitive field has only tightened further. Robert Redford, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Matthew McConaughey and Tom Hanks have only firmed up their status as near-certain nominees, and if there was any doubt that Bruce Dern would pick up a nod, the actor's fierce campaigning makes it more and more likely that it'll come to pass. Short of a real shock, or a swell of momentum for late entrants Christian Bale ("American Hustle") or Leonardo DiCaprio ("The Wolf Of Wall Street"), those will likely be your five nominees come January.

Inside Llewyn Davis
It's cold out, he doesn't have a winter coat, his record label isn't pushing his solo record, the folk scene is changing around him and his ex-girlfriend is pregnant. Things aren't going so well for Llewyn Davis but through thick and thin, the musician has his music and it's the thread that strings together "Inside Llewyn Davis," the Coen brothers' beautifully, hilariously melancholy look at one artist trying to break through.
