Insidious: Chapter 2 Rose Byrne Patrick Wilson Barbara Hershey
When "Insidious" landed two years ago, who would've thought the cheapie horror (literally, it cost $1.5 million) would go on to be an audience and box office sensation, pulling in a staggering $97 million worldwide. Remember, this was not based on a pre-existing property, and didn't feature any A-list stars. That is one profitable meatball. And well, it was only inevitable for this thing to get franchised, and thus, now we have "Insidious: Chapter 2," which brings back all of the key cast members for some more surreal scares.

The last time I wrote about "The Conjuring," some commenters gave me flack for suggesting the first teaser trailer relied to heavily on loud noises and jump scares. Well, what will they have to say about this?

Considering it was one of the most profitable films of 2011 -- $97 million in ticket sales off a paltry 1. $1.5 million budget, that’s a lot of profit-- we’re surprised this wasn’t announced sooner. Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson and director James Wan will all return to reprise their respective roles in the sequel to “Insidious.”

It's AFM time, which means lots of projects are being announced, but whether or not they actually get made anytime soon continues to be up in the air. In fact, there is such a glut of films being tossed around the sales floor, only the barest scraps of info about some of them are making it out.

Occasionally when, in the midst of press rounds for other projects, an actor or director reveals an entire film has been shot under the radar for immediate release -- Noah Baumbach's “Frances Ha” or Joss Whedon's “Much Ado About Nothing” comes to recent memory -- the effect is sublime, eliciting a buzzing anticipation for the soon-to-be-approaching result. Then there's times when the news just settles into a hesitant simmer, such as when actor and playwright Jack Plotnick recently announced cast and plot details of his completed directorial debut, “Space Station 76.”

When you're a Tony-award winning director, who has transitioned easily into the movie world earning both Oscar success ("Chicago") and blockbuster money ("Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides") people are going to jump out of windows to get a shot at what you're doing next. And it seems there were a lot of open windows in Hollywood

Patrick Wilson Joins Season 2 Of 'Girls,' Will Possibly Romance Hannah

The guys Hannah has encountered in "Girls" thus far have all had their own quirks (except for maybe Lou Taylor Pucci who was almost too normal): Adam (Adam Driver) is slightly sexually deviant, uniquely individual, at times disarmingly sweet and yet, he will pee on you in the shower for a laugh; Marnie's ex-boyfriend Charlie (Christopher Abbott) is nice and earnest to the point of tedium while Ray (Alex Karpovsky) has an opinion and insight about nearly everyone, and it's usually not positive. Could Patrick Wilson be the dude to show Hannah there are some normal guys in New York City?

Well, "Prometheus" is in theaters. And if nothing else, it's been causing more furious debate -- in multiplex lobbies, in bars, online -- than most movies in recent memory. And The Playlist head office has been a warzone, with some loving the film, some loathing it, and some (like our review) falling somewhere in the middle. Name-calling and threats of physical violence have ensued.

Mark Duplass has had busy couple of years, directing and writing three films with his brother, and starring in a number of projects including the raunchy FX comedy, “The League,” and in the upcoming sci-fi tinged indie dramedy “Safety Not Guaranteed” with Aubrey Plaza. He’s following up that role with one in another indie film with a sci-fi element, “Convention,” and he’s going to be acting opposite some pretty big names.

While he’s never exactly made a standout horror film, director James Wan, the mastermind along with co-writer Leigh Whannel behind the “Saw” franchise, inched a little closer to something truly compelling with 2011’s “Insidious.” It’s a film that the Playlist didn’t exactly love, but it went on to become one of the most profitable films of 2011, as well as feature a fine ensemble that elevated Wan’s typically B-level casting with the likes of Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Barbara Hershey.
