The AV Club's Random Roles feature is always a good read, but leave it Patton Oswalt to serve up one of the best anecdotes about shooting a movie in recent memory. Nearly a decade ago, the actor found himself with a role in "Blade: Trinity" and the franchise star Wesley Snipes was in rare form. Not only does Oswalt confirm that Snipes pulled a Daniel Day-Lewis and was in character for the entire shoot -- "When I met him I was like, 'Hi!' And he was like, 'I’m Blade.' -- he also apparently tried to choke out director David Goyer, smoked a ton of weed and...well, just read on:

This summer, Aaron Sorkin dropped his highly anticiapted HBO series "The Newsroom," and to quote Brian Williams: "That happened." Unabashedly and at times embarassingly preachy, it was also tremendously compelling as uneven as it was, becoming the show many loved to hate to watch. But HBO has faith Sorkin and co. can turn it around, renewing it for a second season, and some new faces are coming along to possibly irritate the hell out of you.

It might be unkind to call "Nature Calls" an unfortunate-looking comedy with a cast of odds and sods actors, but sometimes you just gotta call 'em as you see 'em. And as much as we love Patton Oswalt and comedy ace-in-the-hole Rob Riggle (so good in "Step Brothers"), this picture directed by Todd Rohal (the well-received "The Catechism Cataclysm" and "The Guatemalan Handshake") does not look great.

SXSW '12 Review: Todd Rohal's Third Feature 'Nature Calls' Is A Dull, Droning Wrong Number

Curiously squandering an immensely talented cast, Todd Rohal's "Nature Calls," written when the writer-director lived in Austin, had more humor and humanity and life in its 10-minute post-screening talk here at SXSW than it showed in its previous 98-minute running time. Starring Patton Oswalt and Johnny Knoxville as brothers -- in clear refutation of all we know about genetics -- "Nature Calls" pits Oswalt's dedicated scoutmaster, eager to take his scoutmaster father on one last camping trip, against Knoxville's black sheep son. You can imagine this premise leading to all kinds of hilarity.

The Oscars, remember those? It all seems like a distant memory now, and it's hard to believe it was just a couple of weeks ago that we were sitting down in extra stretchy pants with some beer and unhealthy snack food to watch the annual Super Bowl for the movies. And while time will tell what the lasting impression from this year's ceremonies will be, debates will continue about who missed out and who should have won.

Making his leading indie debut in the dark "Big Fan" and then stepping out to star opposite Charlize Theron in "Young Adult," you might be surprised to learn that seasoned comic Patton Oswalt has yet to topline a comedy. But all that will change at SXSW this weekend when "Nature Calls" premieres. Directed by Todd Rohal ("The Catechism Cataclysm," "The Guatemalan Handshake"), and executive produced by David Gordon Green, the film boats a stellar comic lineup -- Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle, Maura Tierney, Patrice O'Neal, Darrell Hammond -- and that combination of leading a comedy and working with a strong ensemble was what attracted Oswalt to the film.

Known by many network television junkies as Kevin James’ loud mouth cousin on “King of Queens,” and to comedy fans as a self deprecating standup comic whose jokes often favored obscure or nerdy topics, Patton Oswalt has recently emerged as a fine actor following the praise garnered for his supporting role in Jason Reitman’s “Young Adult.”

Going into “Young Adult,” Jason Reitman’s new dark comedy, you kind of already have a sensation that Charlize Theron is going to dazzle you as the boozy, emotionally stunted author of a series of young adult novels who returns to her hometown in an effort to woo a former beau.
