Fast & Furious 6
This weekend sees the sixth (!) film in the "Fast and Furious" franchise, "Fast and Furious 6" (or, according to director Justin Lin, just "Furious Six") race into theaters. Once thought as a kind of also-ran franchise in the Universal canon, it has quickly become one of the studio's most important properties, with each subsequent film getting bigger and more bombastic (if not genuinely better). Sure, these movies might not be high art but they are consistently entertaining in a way that few Hollywood franchises are, full of muscle cars and beautiful women and tough guys who pummel each other just for the heck of it. In the spirit of "Fast and Furious," we thought we would run down every entry in the entire franchise, from best to worst. So put on your tiniest muscle shirt, grab that energy drink, and buckle up.

Has there ever been a franchise like the "Fast & Furious?" Begun over ten years ago with a film most notable for its '50s-style B-movie title, "The Fast & The Furious," it was a modest sleeper hit. Before long the series saw its biggest draw, the potato-headed growl-monster Vin Diesel, exit the series before it really got going, leading to the Paul Walker solo outing "2 Fast 2 Furious." Unsurprisingly, the box office for that one took a hit, a trend that continued with the Walker-free third outing "The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift." But ever since the series has been on a constant upswing, with "Fast Five" making nearly half-a-billion dollars worldwide, and even winning some critical plaudits, at least for series veteran Justin Lin.

While some filmmakers and studios have done everything in their power to build a mystique around their tentpoles -- think “Star Trek Into Darkness” or “Man Of Steel” -- the team behind “Fast & Furious 6” are clearly of the mind that “more is more.” Though the film hits theaters at the end of the month, Universal Pictures has released nine new clips.

The only question facing Universal right now is just how much of the $626 million worldwide that "Fast Five" made, will be matched or exceeded by "Fast & Furious 6." There is really no doubt it's going to be a monster hit at this point, because no matter where you stand on this series, or whether or not you're a film snob, Vin Diesel driving the car out of the front of a jetplane is fucking awesome. Universal knows this, and that's why they're already looking ahead to next year.

There was a time when "A Luc Besson Film" meant something. Now it's just shorthand for low-to-mid budget actioners, cranked out, packaged and set upon a marketplace that somehow eats up the high calorie filler. Seriously people, "Taken 2" was awful, yet it was a smash hit. Anyway, it looks like that remake of "District 13" that was developing two years ago is not only still happening, it's moving forward. Parkour is back, y'all!

According to Wikipedia, in the videogame series "Hitman," the nameless Agent 47 is marked by the following characteristics: 47 is an introverted character who almost always speaks without emotion in a calm, formal manner (with what might be considered a muted or blunt affect). His lack of empathy, emotion or excitement while committing acts of murder are defining characteristics of the character. Basically, he's an unfeeling, expressionless drone. So who better than Paul Walker to take on the character?

I feel like I’ve heard this somewhere before. In a major world capital, a grudge match between rival gangs necessitates a street-level takedown involving the kind of guys one dreads running into in dark alleys, their thermodynamically dubious cars and an inexplicably low number of pedestrian casualties. Oh yep, that’s right, that was the last five "Fast and Furious" movies.
