I feel like I’ve heard this somewhere before. In a major world capital, a grudge match between rival gangs necessitates a street-level takedown involving the kind of guys one dreads running into in dark alleys, their thermodynamically dubious cars and an inexplicably low number of pedestrian casualties. Oh yep, that’s right, that was the last five "Fast and Furious" movies.

It's virtually unheard of for a series to peak with its fifth installment, but by quite some distance, 2011's "Fast Five" turned out to be the most entertaining of the illegal-road-race franchise (which now has very little to do with road racing). Director Justin Lin, in his third film of the series, cracked the secret that time around, partly by adding the charisma of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson to the cast as a supercop tracking down fugitive speed freaks Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, and the film became a monster worldwide hit, by far the biggest of the five.

It looks like Universal wants to get into...the Paul Walker business? Yes, really. Variety reports that the actor and his Lacuna Ridge Pictures shingle has just inked a two-year, first look production deal with the studio for some reason. Now, it doesn't seem Walker's shingle has produced anything that has made it to the big screen just yet, but we suppose Universal knows what they're doing in hitching their wagon to this guy.

David Belle Will Reprise His Role From The Original FilmWhile Paul Walker has had an incredible career despite possessing the charisma of a park bench, he really wasn't going anywhere until the 'Fast and Furious' franchise picked him back up for the fourth installment in the series. Were it not for the fourth film's mammoth box office take (soon eclipsed by the monstrous performance of the fifth film), Walker was well on his way to fronting a sea of direct-to-DVD efforts, and not performing death-defying car stunts for action fans worldwide. Being the co-lead for a movie that makes $626 million worldwide does seem to open doors that previously seemed closed, as "Fast Five" proves.

Well, that didn't take long. Just one day after "A Good Day To Die Hard" got a new title and release date, the shortlist process has begun for the actor who helps Old Man McClane defeat some Russians as his son. And as it usually goes with this sort of thing, it's a grab bag bunch of folks.

The acting career of "Fast and the Furious" star Paul Walker has been an interesting one, and by interesting we mean it's puzzling as to why this guy has constantly been positioned as one of Hollywood's "It" guys for over a decade. Despite attempts at legitimacy with films like the faux-gritty crime drama "Running Scared," Walker is still best known for the superfluous 'Furious' films and running away from perverted truck drivers in 2001's "Joy Ride."

Hooray for Hollywood, or something. The 2011 box office finally snapped out of its doldrums with more reheated crap, “Fast Five” opening to a spectacular-for-Universal $83 million. The car blockbuster’s weekend surpasses “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” as the biggest opening weekend in Universal history, and with spectacular overseas results, the film is poised to do upwards of $400-$500 million globally, topping the $353 worldwide take of “Fast And Furious,” the last film in the series.

Paul Walker is a bit of a conundrum. While he's one of the stars of the long-running "Fast & Furious" franchise, and while he's had some modest successes on his own -- "Takers," "Running Scared," uh "Eight Below" -- he's not quite a proven leading man on his own either. However, it seems the actor knows which side his bread is buttered on and his next film is another wheelman effort.

While much of the populace still harbors residual resentment and ill-will towards musician/filmmaker Fred Durst for his rap-rock tresspasses and early aughts omnipresence, the Limp Bizkit frontman has undeniably contributed to modern cinema in a film that is already being considered a contemporary classic
