Doctor Who
I haven't watched "Doctor Who" since probably sometime in the '80s, but somewhat remarkably, the sci-fi series has endured and become something a massive favorite among TV audiences. And when it was announced last year that Matt Smith was leaving the role after playing it for three years, it started a wave of speculation and talk about who would be his replacement (we had our own choices). Respected actor and longtime "Doctor Who" fan Peter Capaldi landed the coveted gig, and now the first full trailer has arrived showing off the fresh face of the series.

Prophet or pariah? That's the question that still surrounds Julian Assange, who even holed up in an Ecuadorian embassy in London, continues to make waves. It was actually two years ago when he warned iPhone, Blackberry and Gmail users about widespread surveillance—well in advance of Edward Snowden's NSA leaks—and this week, Time reporter Michael Grunwald landed in hot water for tweeting: "I can't wait to write a defense of the drone strike that takes out Julian Assange." There are vested interests on both sides who want a piece of Assange, and so does Hollywood.

Sort of the nerd version of the Royal Baby watch, "Doctor Who" fans waited breathlessly today for the announcement that would temporarily alter the universe of the long-running TV show. With Matt Smith stepping out of the TARDIS earlier this year, his replacement has now been officially named. And nope, it's a not a hot young bod, a woman or someone wildly unexpected.

As we said yesterday when we were running down the best TV shows of the last year, the season is officially over, and Emmy voting for the 2013 installment of the awards closes tomorrow. Having run down our favorite series, we wanted to turn our attention to some of the performers who've been appearing in them.

We're still over a month away from the 2013 Oscars, but consider the 2014 season open, courtesy of DreamWorks. The company (who are leading the field with "Lincoln" this year) have been prepping their WikiLeaks movie, directed by "Gods and Monsters" and "Twilight: Breaking Dawn" helmer Bill Condon, for some time, but it was slightly unclear when it would be hitting theaters. But with filming now underway, they've put their cards on the table, revealing a title, an awards-season release date, and an impressive supporting cast.
