For Brian De Palma fanatics, it's been an agonizingly long wait for another sexy, stylish spellbinder. His last feature was 2007 incendiary "Redacted," which was a noble failure, but a failure just the same. Honestly, we can only watch our Criterion "Blow Out" Blu-rays so many times. Thankfully, word comes down from Anne Thompson that his new movie, "Passion," a loose remake of the recent French thriller "Love Crime," has picked up a cast member and set a date for principle photography.

Now most of the awards contenders have been unveiled, the major secrets left in the 2011 movie advent calendar are a few big, loud blockbusters that'll hit around Christmas; films like "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol," "The Darkest Hour," and, um, "Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked." Will they be sweet, sugar-y goodness, or the cinematic equivalent of Billy Bob Thornton drunkenly eating the whole thing late at night, and then remorsefully filling it with candy corn and taping it up again?

That's His Next Film, Not His Next Next Film, His Next Next Next Film Or His Next Next Next Next FilmWhat in the name of grace and nature has gotten into Terrence Malick recently? With the announcement yesterday of two new projects both starring Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett -- "Lawless," also with Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara, and "Knight of Cups" with Isabel Lucas -- it means that the reclusive auteur looks likely to make more films in the space of this decade than he did in the previous 35 put together. Of course, he unveiled "The Tree of Life" this year, and has the IMAX documentary "Voyage of Time" reportedly still in the works, not to mention his rumored involvement with "Green Lantern 2." Okay, that we just made up.

New Footage Confirms That Rachel McAdams Returns For SequelThe Christmas season coming up contains more than a few risks in terms of the big commercial movies. Films like "The Muppets" and "The Adventures of Tintin" are placing large, expensive bets on properties that are no longer as famous as they once were, Sony are hoping that audiences will want to spend the holidays with an R-rated tale of rape and murder with "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," and Martin Scorsese has a hugely expensive family movie that, if early reviews are to be believed, appeals mainly to cinephiles.

After shacking up with Batman's brother in "The Fighter," Amy Adams is set to become Superman's dame. According to the L.A. Times, Zack Snyder has found his Lois Lane for the upcoming "Superman" project slated for a late 2012 release, and it's Oscar nominee Adams, who will step into the iconic workaholic high heels. If the rumors are to be believed (and not all of them are), Adams beat out less-pedigreed competition in Kristen Stewart, Jessica Biel, Rachel McAdams, Malin Ackerman, Dianna Agron, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis, Lindsay Lohan, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, Abe Vigoda, Bristol Palin, Justin Bartha, Elizabeth Bathory, Ms. Pac-Man... rumors are rumors, we suppose.

In case you forgot, in addition to Terrence Malick's highly anticipated, cinema breaking, cosmos exploring "The Tree of Life" set to this theaters this spring, the director has second film on the way and it looks like we won't have wait a half decade to see it.
