First Look At Rachel Weisz Alongside Jeremy Renner In 'The Bourne Legacy'

Of all the summer blockbusters on the way in the coming months, "The Bourne Legacy" is the one that's been keeping its cards closest to its chest. Even against the relatively secretive likes of "The Dark Knight Rises," Tony Gilroy's film, the fourth in the 'Bourne' franchise and the first without original star Matt Damon, has only unveiled a handful of stills and one stylish, '70s-style TV trailer, with only the barest minimum of details about the film revealed so far (many of them in our own chat with Gilroy).

It was just a couple of weeks ago that we wondered if we were going to be seeing Terrence Malick's then-untitled romance starring (deep breath) Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz, Javier Bardem, Barry Pepper, Michael Sheen and Amanda Peet before the end of the year. And at the time, the answer was: who knew? The enigmatic director keeps to himself and likes to continually tinker, but with two more movies gearing up this year in the formerly titled "Lawless" and "Knight Of Cups," we hoped that meant this one was finally nearing the finish line. And it appears that's the case.

Terence Davies’ newest film, “The Deep Blue Sea,” takes place, like much of his work, in post-World War II England. In it, Rachel Weisz plays Hester Collyer, a woman who abandons her passionless marriage to a wealthy barrister (Simon Russell Beale) for a torrid affair with a troubled former Royal Air Force pilot (Tom Hiddleston), the consequences of which plunge her into despair. When we got a chance to speak with the director, a natural storyteller with a mischievous sense of humor and infectious laugh, we would never have guessed he suffered from an acute case of homesickness for his native U.K., a fact he admitted toward the end of our time together.

It has been a long while since we've heard about Madeleine Stowe's dream project Western, "Unbound Captives." First announced way, way back in 2009, the film was set to star Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson, with Jackman set to play a frontiersman who rescues a woman (Weisz) whose husband is killed and children kidnapped by a Comanche war party. Pattinson was going to play Weisz's kidnapped son, a role that it was reported in 2010 would require him to speak "almost entirely" in Comanche. But despite kind words from everyone about the script, "Unbound Captives" has continued to sit unmade. But Stowe has high hopes that Pattinson will stay on board, even though he's approaching his 25th birthday and too old for the part.

After a year of fairly tough work, dealing with infidelity and depression in "The Deep Blue Sea", U.N. corruption in "The Whistleblower," and forgetting to turn down roles in "360" and "Dream House," the next year or so sees Rachel Weisz heading to tentpole territory for the first time since 2005's "Constantine." She's got a key role alongside Jeremy Renner, Edward Norton and co. in Tony Gilroy's "The Bourne Legacy" arriving in the summer, while early 2013 sees her join Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams as one of a triumvirate of witches in Sam Raimi's "Oz The Great and Powerful."

That's His Next Film, Not His Next Next Film, His Next Next Next Film Or His Next Next Next Next FilmWhat in the name of grace and nature has gotten into Terrence Malick recently? With the announcement yesterday of two new projects both starring Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett -- "Lawless," also with Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara, and "Knight of Cups" with Isabel Lucas -- it means that the reclusive auteur looks likely to make more films in the space of this decade than he did in the previous 35 put together. Of course, he unveiled "The Tree of Life" this year, and has the IMAX documentary "Voyage of Time" reportedly still in the works, not to mention his rumored involvement with "Green Lantern 2." Okay, that we just made up.

Could Direct 'Sheriff Street Stories' About Childhood In Ireland NextIt's always disappointing when strong directors come out with a film that is absolutely terrible. Jim Sheridan's "Dream House," with an 8% critics' rating on Rotten Tomatoes and only $14.5 million dollars in box office so far, initially had a boatload of promise with charismatic stars Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts, but what we saw was terrifyingly bad (and not because trailers promised a horror story à la Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining"). And just as everyone was beginning to wonder what had happened, besides the extensive reshoots, the LA Times reported late last week that Sheridan wanted his name taken off the final film.

At one stage, 2011 threatened to be the year of Rachel Weisz, with no fewer than five films set for release and several potential awards contenders among them. But things haven't quite turned out as planned; she picked up good reviews for "The Whistleblower," but the film didn't get much traction, while both "Page Eight" and "360" got pretty poor reviews at Toronto, and "Dream House"... well, I mean, you've seen the trailer, right?
