Luke Wilson Is 'A Many Splintered Thing;' Chloe Sevigny Among 'Those Who Kill' & More

Since leading the ill-fated Mike Judge-helmed “Idiocracy” in 2006, Luke Wilson hasn’t had a high-profile gig -- even something like “Middle Men” barely hit theaters -- but now the actor has snatched a role in the Black List-approved “A Many Splintered Thing.” First-time director Justin Reardon will helm the film, described as being in the same spirit of “Amelie” and “(500) Days Of Summer.” Wilson will appear alongside a talented ensemble that includes Anthony Mackie, Aubrey Plaza, Philip Baker Hall, Topher Grace and Giovanni Ribisi with Chris Evans and Michelle Monaghan as the leads in the the story of a man (Evans) who has given up on love, until he meets an engaged woman (Monaghan) at a charity dinner, by posing as a philanthropist. He pretends to be her platonic friend, all while trying to win her for himself, away from a man who doesn't like going on dates.

As was documented earlier, there was a lot cut from "The Amazing Spider-Man" as Sony and director Marc Webb wrestled with the film prior to release. Among the many elements that were apparently jettisoned in the "the untold story" (which turned out be the story we already knew) was an element that Peter Parker's dad had secretly been involved in his son's transformation into Spider-Man. And some deleted scenes seem to be point out this was the case.

Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man," the second of this summer's three massive superhero movies, is now in theaters. And while so far it's performing behind "Spider-Man 3," the film's doing reasonably well (expected to haul in somewhere in the neighborhood of $130 million by Sunday) given the lack of enthusiasm from hardcore fans, and the widespread dislike of the final Sam Raimi film, which in part helped to push things toward a blank slate again. And reviews have been pretty severely divided, with some hailing it as one of best examples of the comic book genre to date, and others loathing every frame of it.

We're likely reaching something of a tipping point with the superhero movies. The first wave is ending: "X-Men" has already been reinvented, Superman is getting his second relaunch in a decade, "The Hulk" has already had its third iteration, and Christopher Nolan's Batman-trilogy, which more than anything else brought a new level of respectability to the genre, is coming to a close. We're entering the second phase of the modern superhero movie era, and it's leading to some interesting possibilities. So far, these films have essentially been a genre in and of themselves, but as new filmmakers inevitably try out fresh ideas within its confines, we're likely to see other styles brought into the mix.

Coming between "Prometheus" and "The Dark Knight Rises," and with "The Avengers" already setting a tremendously high bar for comic book films to reach, Sony's "The Amazing Spider-Man" is in an unenviable position. Early buzz has been lukewarm, and certainly the excitement behind this reboot can't match anything approaching the anticipation for the aforementioned films. So with a few more weeks to go until it hits theaters, it looks like Sony is just gonna bombard everyone with stuff from the movie in the hopes that something sticks.

There are few late night television personalities as awesomely unfunny as Jay Leno, but for whatever reason, people seem to love the guy. And endure him you must to watch the latest clip from "The Amazing Spider-Man" which is actually the most promising bit of footage of we've seen so far.

With "The Avengers" already in theaters and crushing the box office, and with Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" looking to deliver the epic finale everyone is hoping for, can Sony's "The Amazing Spider-Man" make it three-for-three? Well, the newest (and, presumably, the last) trailer is here and it's pretty… blah. Sony is going to have to go into overdrive to convince people that it's worth sitting through another two hours of "how Peter Parker got his Spider-Man powers," because, really, this trailer isn't convincing anyone.

Funny, touching and occasionally dramatic, Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller’s charming “The Five Year Engagement” falls just short of the modern-day comedy classic category, and yet is deeply entertaining, genuinely amusing and satisfying in the way most shaggy-dog, two-hour-plus comedies are not. Bolstered by a hilarious supporting cast and two genuinely likable leads, the Judd Apatow-produced comedy may feel a little unkempt at times, but the picture has sweet and touching notes to go with the diverting silliness.

Last spring, Universal scored a touchdown with the Apatow-produced, Paul Feig-directed comedy hit "Bridesmaids," and now, a year later, they're hoping they can repeat that success. Apatow is once again working his wizardry behind the scenes, this time for director Nicholas Stoller and stars Jason Segel and Emily Blunt in "The Five-Year Engagement."

Originally set to team Darren Aronofsky and Angelina Jolie, it was back in January that the trio of Susanne Bier, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper boarded a new iteration of "Serena," the adaptation of Ron Rash's period-drama novel. The project looks to be coming together quickly though having now added Rhys Ifans and Toby Jones to its cast in gearing for a March shoot.
