With the exception of Walter, a perfectly serviceable character who joined an ensemble already way too rich with personalities to add another, 2011’s “The Muppets” was sort of a perfect reintroduction to Jim Henson’s most famous creations: playing directly to the notion that Kermit and the gang were outdated, Jason Segel’s pet project highlighted their timeless appeal with a story as wholesome and yet subversive as the show and movies that inspired it.

Muppets Most Wanted
They may be Jason Segel-less this time around but with celebrities like Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais, Tom Hiddleston and more, populating the human-side of the cast, the “Muppets Most Wanted” should surely do fine for Disney’s bottom line. Just to be safe, the mouse house has unleashed a few parody posters and some videos designed to push you off the fence and into the theater.

Muppets Again
2011's "The Muppets" arrived on a wave of nostalgia and some very savvy marketing, that converged into a final product that was a big ball of fun (remember those parody trailers?). This time around, that wistful feeling has faded, the marketing has been more traditional and Disney sort of just expects you to show up.

You might think with no shortage of Jim Henson creations to choose from that a Muppets movie doesn't need star power to back it up. But cameos have been a staple of the franchise since the beginning and that's not stopping with the latest entry in the series, "Muppets Most Wanted."

While two seasons and a Christmas special was initially enough for Ricky Gervais' groundbreaking hit "The Office," it seems that he's not done with well-meaning but hapless David Brent. This year alone he trotted out the character for a new sketch during Comic Relief, and notably for a 10-minute short, entitled "The Office Revisited" (watch it here). But it doesn't end there. If things go according to plan for Gervais, we could possibly see a full blown cinematic outing for the character.

Starting out called simply "The Muppets 2," then "Muppets...Again!" and now having finally settled on "Muppets Most Wanted," Disney can now start the proper marketing wheels on their felt covered sequel and today brings with it the first teaser trailer.

It’s always fascinating to see a famous performer in their more formative years. For Ricky Gervais, his formative years were rather brief, as he had his mainstream television debut in 1999. That’s two years before “The Office” first aired on the BBC, when his career subsequently exploded. Nevertheless, it’s very interesting to see where the comedian got his start. Gervais got his first big break in a one-off for Channel 4’s “Comedy Lab,” which is a program that showcases comedy pilots. Gervais’ show, co-written with Stephen Merchant, was called “Golden Years” and, thankfully for us, the entire episode is available online.

After Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's groundbreaking "The Office," followed by the equally well received "Extras," it seemed that audiences began to cool on that particular brand of comedy. Rooted in vain, unlikeable, ambitious and curiously sympathetic characters, it's not clear where public opinion went, but "Life's Too Short" certainly deserved a better reception than it got.

In Britain, the biannual charity extravaganza that is Comic Relief has a great track record for creating one-off comedy sketches, many based around established British shows and comedy characters. Past classics have included skits based around the likes of "Doctor Who," "Blackadder," "Gavin and Stacey," "One Foot in the Grave," "Da Ali G Show," "I'm Alan Partridge" and "Father Ted." Ricky Gervais has been involved many times before, perhaps most notably for the time he created an extremely funny sketch in which he appeared to be recording an appeal for aid from Africa. Well, Gervais returned with a new sketch at this year's Comic Relief, and this time he brought back David Brent.
