Anton Yelchin Kate Mara After The Disco
Indie bands doing short films is kinda so hot right now. As it becomes increasingly challenging to get noticed above the fray, bands have taken to the medium to give fans and newcomers alike a different way of entry for their music. Of course, Arcade Fire teamed with Spike Jonze for "The Suburbs," while Beach House took the more DIY route and made "Forever Still" themselves. And now a couple more bands are stepping towards cinema with interesting results.

Juno Temple is very much the woman of the moment. Last weekend, she cropped up in "The Dark Knight Rises" -- somewhat wasted, inarguably, but still there -- and this weekend, she gives one of the most electric performances of the year in William Friedkin's "Killer Joe." And, as if to hammer home how much in the Zeitgeist the young British actress is right now, a trailer for her next film just arrived, in the shape of a promo from Magnolia Pictures for "Jack And Diane."

A lesbian werewolf story featuring animated sequences by the legendary Brothers Quay and starring Juno Temple, Riley Keough and pop superstar Kylie Minogue? The ingredients are there for something either truly special or utterly disastrous. And while our review from the Tribeca Film Festival leans toward the latter, there's no doubt that the subject matter and cast should earn "Jack and Diane" some attention when it rolls out.

Other than when the supernatural is involved, cannibalism isn't a subject regularly explored on screen but it was the basis for the story behind Mexican director Jorge Michel Grau's acclaimed 2010 Cannes entry "Somo Lo Que Hay" (translated as "We Are What We Are"). The film has been in line for an American remake by Jim Mickle (the vampiric "Stake Land") since February but looks to be coming together quickly now that sought-after actress Riley Keough ("Magic Mike," "Jack & Diane") has joined the project, headlining a newly announced cast.

The heart of "Jack and Diane," the third film from Bradley Rust Gray, isn't about it being a monster movie. It's about looking at a love story and seeing that there's qualities that Gray brings to this relationship that perfectly reflect first love: bright and flighty Diane (Juno Temple) is visiting her aunt in New York and finds herself falling for Jack (Riley Keough), a rougher and more butch girl working in a skate shop. As their first night culminates in a kiss, Diane's feelings overtake her body, turning her into a snarling, grotesque beast with hair and wires snaking around her organs. Whether Diane's hiding a deadly fact about herself, or if it's just Gray playing with metaphor as their relationship evolves over a week, is entirely up to the audience.

Newcomers Bella Heathcote and Alicia Vikander Also Linked To Role It's been a few months since there was any news on the duelling 'Snow White' projects set up at Universal and Relativity -- the former has newcomer Rupert Sanders attached to direct, the latter visual stylist Tarsem, and while both have had names rumored to be involved, no solid word has come out for some time. But suddenly, the floodgates have opened, with news coming in last night that Relativity want Julia Roberts to play the evil queen in their project, "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White," while, as rumored, Charlize Theron is on the verge of signing on for the equivalent role in Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman."
