We guess the producers behind the upcoming Jeff Buckley biopic aren't laughing anymore. Earlier in the year, a report popped up in the U.K. press that Robert Pattinson was being considered to take on the role of the late singer. When we reached out to one of the producers on the film at the time they denied those rumors saying, “I did see [the U.K. report], it’s pretty funny.”

Casting News Explosion Includes Rob Riggle As Villain In '21 Jump Street,' Tim Roth In 'Arbitrage' & Much MoreJay Baruchel is joining the cast of David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis." The rangy young actor will play a "financial whiz kid" in the film, who makes a fortuitous gamble over the course of the film's single-day narrative. Baruchel is joining a loaded cast, including Robert Pattinson, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Mathieu Amalric and Sarah Gadon. Baruchel will next be seen in the Michael Dowse-directed "Goon," which he co-wrote with Evan Goldberg, before lending his voice to the second film in the "How To Train Your Dragon" series. Update: First tipped by C7nema and confirmed by reps for the film, Kevin Durand ("Lost," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"), Emily Hampshire ("The Trotsky") and Patricia McKenzie have also joined the film playing Torval, Jane Melman and Kendra respectively.

Robert Pattinson, in a recent profile in Vanity Fair, said “....being in such a specific pigeonhole right now, it’s very strange. Having a persona people recognize, it’s the thing that probably gets you paid the most—but it’s also the thing that virtually every actor in the world doesn’t want. Cause, like, no one would believe me if I wanted to play something ultra-realistic, like a gangster or something.”

With shooting set to begin this summer in Toronto, casting on David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric is wrapping up. Samantha Morton joined the cast last week -- as we found out via a Robert Pattinson interview -- now she's been confirmed, and according to Entertainment One, who is handling the picture's distribution in Canada, one more actor has joined the cast: Canadian Sarah Gadon, who will be playing the role of the Pattinson character's estranged wife, Elise Shifrin.

Garrett Hedlund, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake & Joaquin Phoenix Also In The MixThe long-gestating "Akira" remake seems to have been knocking around for awhile now and to Warner Bros' credit, they are trying to get it as right as possible before moving this thing forward. With most fans outright skeptical of how the studio is going to change the wild, decidedly not mainstream manga into a broadly appealing, PG-13 two-film franchise, last month the studio brought in the big guns which -- for better or worse -- point in the direction they're headed. Steve Kloves, who has penned seven of the eight ‘Harry Potter’ movies, was tasked with polishing the script for the gestating project and WB appear to be very happy with his work.

Perhaps this is why the new transparency sucks and why a salient argument can be made for the halcyon days of film development behind closed doors: watching the back and forth progress and decline of David Cronenberg‘s gestating “Cosmpolis” is heartbreaking. First, it's an A-list project out the door with Colin Farrell, Marion Cotillard and Paul Giamatti and then it's a slightly less desireable project with Robert Pattinson and Keira Knightley in the leads instead of Farrell and Cotillard who bailed for a tentpole ("Total Recall") and a baby, respectively (Cotillard is pregnant, the dream for Playlist suitors is collapsing).

Last week, a minor brouhaha erupted when the Alfama Films website posted some info about David Cronenberg's gestating "Cosmpolis," revealing that Marion Cotillard was no longer involved in the film (later confirmed to us by her reps) and that Keira Knightley appeared to have taken over in her role (that info has since been removed). Also, curiously missing from the cast list was Paul Giamatti who was in talks late last year for a role in the film. Well, it looks like the actor is still set to join the project.

The past few days have seen some pretty ridiculous music movie stories circulating, which should serve as a general reminder to bloggers everywhere of a rule that you can't forget: if the story sounds too good to be true and originates from the British press, triple check your sources. Especially when it's an old rumor.

Has Paul Giamatti Moved On Too?Well, we were once pretty excited for David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis," but with the cast being switched out wholesale, our expectations have diminished. With Robert Pattinson replacing Colin Farrell earlier in the month, it suddenly didn't make much sense to have the previously attached female Marion Cotillard still on board to play his wife (she's ten years his senior). And so no surprise, it looks like she's been replaced too.
