Queen Of The Night Ryan Reynolds
It's been four years since Atom Egoyan's last feature, the sleazy erotic thriller "Chloe," but he's making up for that absence by being very, very busy. He's got two movies on the way -- the already shot and in post-production West Memphis Three drama "The Devil's Knot," which he quickly followed up with "Queen Of The Night," lensed earlier this year. And now, the first image from the film has arrived.

Tarsem, the man behind movies "The Cell," "The Fall" and "Immortals," has always had bold visuals to with his ambitious films, but the ends results always seem to fall just a little short. He's a master stylist to be certain, and even something like the somewhat absurd sounding "Selfless," opens the door to plenty of opportunities for creativity.

RIPD, Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges
In terms of "most anticipated summer movies," "R.I.P.D.," a new supernatural action film from Universal that stars Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, before today, didn't even chart. In fact, we're not sure we quite understood what it was even supposed to be – it has a primo July 19th release date but very little in terms of pre-release hype, save for a vaguely "Men in Black"-ish teaser poster and a funny/cool name (it stands for "Rest In Peace Department" – love the puns). But with the debut of a full trailer, it looks like "R.I.P.D." could be one of the sleeper surprise of the summer, promising gobs of goofy, spooky fun.

Tim Burton Amy Adams Christoph Waltz Big Eyes
So, where do we start with "Big Eyes"? Well, let's go with a brief history lesson. Developing for at least six years if not longer, the project comes from Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski ("Ed Wood," "The People Vs. Larry Flynt," "Man On The Moon") and with two big lead roles, over the years Thomas Haden Church and Kate Hudson became attached, and in 2012 Ryan Reynolds and Reese Witherspoon were linked, with Tim Burton slated to produce the effort that would serve as the screenwriters' directorial debut. But it looks Burton is going to take it all for himself with a pretty killer leading duo.

Ryan Reynolds Says He's Not Very Interested In Returning To 'Green Lantern'; Says 'Deadpool' Wasn't Happy With 'Wolverine' Appearance

Green Lantern
Ryan Reynolds is doing press for the animated film "The Croods," which means someone had to ask him about his two strikes at the bat with superhero comic book movies. That someone was Empire, who quizzed the actor about both films. Surprisingly, even though both films, "Green Lantern" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" (wherein he played Deadpool) were fairly lame, he seems keen on returning to one of the franchises, but the other one not so much. Let's start with "Green Lantern" since he was actually the face of the film and it was the much larger flop of the two (in fact, one of the biggest flops of 2011; read more about some of the Greatest Box-Office Flops Of All Time here).

We suspect our reaction may be out of step with the general consensus of press at our Berlin Film Festival screening of the "The Croods" (where we first saw the film back in February) if the guffaws and applause were anything to go by, but really that had us kind of baffled. The DreamWorks film, from writer/directors Chris Sanders ("How to Train Your Dragon," "Lilo & Stitch") and Kirk Di Micco ("Space Chimps"), features a starry voice cast in Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Cloris Leachman and Clark Duke, and an appropriately high concept: the Croods are a family of cavemen who have to evolve suddenly when faced with cataclysmic natural disasters and the arrival of a young Homo Sapiens with the ability to make fire.

Two guys whose careers both took a bit of a bruising in the summer of 2011 with two tentpoles that were critically reviled and underperformed, are teaming up for a project that will hopefully see them reversing their fortunes together.

After the summer of 2011 in which Ryan Reynolds featured in two disappointments -- the superhero flick "Green Lantern" and the body swap comedy "The Change-Up" -- one wondered if the actor's shot at the big time was in trouble. But earlier this year he helped make "Safe House" a big hit (and it now has a followup in the works), next summer he's got "R.I.P.D." (which is also primed for a sequel if it's a hit), and now it seems the actor wants to prove he's got the chops to go with his looks. He's already lining up a role in Atom Egoyan's "Queen Of The Night," and he seems to have earned the attention of another arthouse director as well.

"Never leave the cave!" Voiced by Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman, DreamWorks Animations' "The Croods" is the company's big animated family comedy of 2013. Directed by Chris Sanders (the filmmaker behind "How to Train Your Dragon" and the illustrator who created "Lilo & Stitch") and Kirk DeMicco (writer of "Space Chimps" and the upcoming "Hong Kong Phooey" adaptation), one can only assume that if the film takes off like they hope, franchise is in the cards (and when isn't it for the lucrative field of animation?).

Universal Moves Forward With 'Safe House 2,' David Guggenheim Penning Script

Universal hasn't been having the best year so far. Sure, they had an unexpected hit in the Seth MacFarlane comedy "Ted" and "Snow White and the Huntsmen" probably did just well enough to merit a sequel (writer David Koepp, who specializes in oversized blockbusters, is hard at work as we speak). But they have also been saddled with pricey duds like waterlogged board game adaptation "Battleship," violent drug world freak-out "Savages," and stillborn romantic comedy "The Five-Year Engagement." So it's no surprise they'll want to seize upon one of their few hits and produce a follow-up, which is what they're doing in the case of the Ryan Reynolds/Denzel Washington thriller "Safe House."
