'Pride & Prejudice & Zombies' Lily James, Sam Riley, Bella Heathcote
There have been few movies under development in Hollywood with as many lives as "Pride And Prejudice And Zombies." Over the past few years, directors David O. Russell, Mike White and Craig Gillespie tried and failed to get the movie going for a variety of reasons. Russell complained he was being lowballed on budget, while it seemed no executives could pull the trigger regardless of who was helming. And even when, over a year ago, Lily James came on board to lead the movie as Elizabeth Bennett, there was still radio silence and zero movement....until today.

Maleficent
Yeah, we know. It feels like there's been about fifteen trailers for "Maleficent" already, and Disney has dropped yet another, but instead of essentially playing like an extended TV spot, this is a legit full length spot with lots of new footage, magical stuff and bellowing. So let's take a gander, shall we?

Sam Riley, Eddie Redmayne, Toby Kebbell, Domhnall Gleeson Dr. Doom
Producer Matthew Vaughn and director Josh Trank have been doing everything in their power to distance their “Fantastic Four” reboot from the earlier goofy films. Not content with just casting great young actors as the famous superhero team, the filmmakers are looking to surprise with their villain choice too.

Berlin Review: 'The Dark Valley' Starring Sam Riley Is A Dour, Unoriginal German-Language Western

The Dark Valley
A stranger rides into an isolated hardscrabble town, embarks on a personal quest for bloody revenge and along the way becomes the townspeople's champion: so far, so every Western ever made. But the big twist here is that everyone's speaking German, even Sam Riley who plays the film's hero, and the mountains that hem in the small community are distinctly Alpine. Welcome to "The Dark Valley" from director Andreas Prochaska, playing this week at the Berlin Film Festival, which in transposing to rural Austria a story that might usually play out in Tombstone or some logging town in Colorado, may be pretty much the first attempt at a "schnitzel Western" that we've seen.

Is it a bit ridiculous to already be pining for next year's festival season? Alright, it totally is ridiculous but we're probably not alone in being stoked for "Suite Francaise," if only because it brings together Michelle Williams and Matthias Schoenaerts for a wartime romance. And with lensing taking place this summer, some early images from the film have arrived along with an official synopsis and director's statement to give a sense of what's in store.

Actor Sam Riley has been progressing up the ranks after his break-out performance in the 2007 biopic “Control” and his more recent turn in "On The Road." With a starring role alongside Angelina Jolie in “Maleficient” next summer, Riley has jumped aboard the Weinstein Company’s adaptation of Irene Nemirovsky’s book, “Suite Francaise.” Set in WWII, the project recently acquired leading lady Michelle Williams, on top of a cast that already includes Kristin Scott Thomas as Williams’ mother. The story follows a French woman (Williams) who falls in love with a German officer (played by Matthias Schoenaerts). The cast is a fine assortment of indie darlings and past Oscar contenders who could give it strong legs for awards consideration next year. Production is set to start later this summer for a release next year. [Deadline]

Review: Beat Classic 'On The Road' Comes To The Screen In Lustrous-But-Long-Winded Fashion

Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" has been heralded for decades: an important novel, a cultural signifier, a sociological landmark, a cracking good read. It's also been considered "unfilmable" -- but now Walter Salles ("The Motorcycle Diaries," "Dark Water") brings the novel to the screen, and "The Motorcycle Diaries" turns out to be a pretty good template for understanding how Salles has shot his adaptation. "On the Road," like 'Diaries,' is scenic and episodic, full of youth's passion but with a shade of the future yet to come dimming the brightness of its vision, as a charismatic young man travels with another young man, saying little but watching everything along the way.

Did you know that Walter Salles and screenwriter Jose Rivera have three more unproduced screenplays? Or that Rivera isn't exactly thrilled that some of the lines in "On The Road" were adlibbed? Or that Salles was contractually obligated to bring in an edit of two hours? In case you missed it, those are some of the fascinating highlights from Rivera's presentation of the movie at BAM over the weekend and you can read our full recap right here. And after you've done that, take a look at the below...

While the Kristen Stewart scandal or whatever from this summer seems to be fading, with rumors that she is back with Robert Pattinson, whether she's ready or not, the actress will be back in the spotlight this fall. Of course, there's "Twilight: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2" giving Twihards one last cinematic orgasm before the franchise fades from view, but for those with a more discerning movie palate, Stewart will also be appearing in Walter Salles' long awaited "On The Road."
