It feels like we've been tracking Walter Salles' adaptation of Jack Kerouac's seminal Beat Generation work, "On The Road," for years now, but come this Wednesday we'll finally have word on how the Brazilian director has fared with the cult favorite. Everything we've seen so far has been highly promising, a notion personified by the young but talented cast led by the duo of Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund.

The long, difficult journey from page to screen for Jack Kerouac's "On The Road" has been well-documented over the years, and one thing that has been consistent throughout is the passion and love evinced for the novel by all involved --particularly the godfather of it all, Francis Ford Coppola, who acquired the novel's rights back in 1978 at the height of his success.

With a Facebook page, new poster and a U.K. release date (September 21) surfacing recently, it was only a matter of time before a trailer for Walter Salles' long-awaited adaptation of Jack Kerouac's "On The Road" appeared, and now it has finally arrived.

It's been a long journey to get "On The Road" to the screen. The beatnik classic by Jack Kerouac was never going to be an easy translation, but Francis Ford Coppola initially bought the rights over thirty years ago, and worked on the project for decades before eventually handing over the directing reins to "The Motorcycle Diaries" helmer Walter Salles. Even then, it's taken a while: the film shot a year-and-a-half ago, and was expected to land last year, but Salles has refused to be rushed in the editing room.

Seventeen years after tackling the vampire flick "Interview With A Vampire," Irish writer-director Neil Jordan is now returning to the genre that has a newfound popularity, with an upcoming female-led story that has two of the biggest rising thespians across the pond in Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan already attached to star. Titled "Byzantium," the film has now also managed to add another promising talent in the form of Brit actor Sam Riley to its ranks.

It’s unfortunate, but there’s a Movie Content Hierarchy. Great filmmakers don’t pretend this exists -- Darren Aronofsky makes a horror movie and genre-hating critics love it, and former Fangoria mainstay David Cronenberg maintains his integrity and themes of perversion and body modification while becoming a boutique festival filmmaker. But more often than not, directors, screenwriter and producers are beholden to the unimaginative thought of “this is how it is meant to be done.” More specifically, films from other parts of the world, particularly smaller ones, have their own vocabulary, their own rhythms and idiosyncrasies. Gela Babluani’s “13 Tzameti” is one of those films, a slow burn thriller from France shot in stark black and white and featuring minimal accoutrement in terms of score, outsized performances, or onscreen violence. It’s a picture that aims low but with laser-sharp precision, to the point where you felt that Babluani was a major storytelling talent with little affection for sentimentality or empty showmanship.

"13 Tzameti," 2006's Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner, is a clipped, tight and exciting piece of genre filmmaking. Gela Babluani's directorial debut concerns a layman who accepts a mysterious envelope meant for another man, only to learn that the payday promised therein forces him to participate in a Russian Roulette tournament. The film is stark, black and white, and French, a minor minimalist masterpiece that lingers in your head for days afterwards. If we told you Babluani remade his own film in color with American money and huge Hollywood stars, would you not believe that it was probably terrible? And would that pessimism be highlighted by the film's over two year post-production period?
