Writer/director Stephen Gaghan has given us the scripts to Steven Soderbergh’s “Traffic” "Rules of Engagement," and "The Alamo," but turned full-fledged filmmaker with 2005's excellent political drama, "Syriana." He hasn’t directed a film since, but not for want of trying. Gaghan’s been attached to several projects over the years, but for whatever reason, none of them have come to fruition. He may have struck gold with the cast of his his latest, “Candy Store.” The picture already stars “Zero Dark Thirty” star Jason Clarke and Omar Sy (“The Intouchables”), but his latest casting coup is even more impressive; Robert De Niro. The acting legend is joining the cast for a story about an undercover agent (Clarke) who begins a new life as beat cop in Brooklyn, but finds that his past life comes back to haunt him. De Niro plays a former cop who teams up with him to stop the threat that could endanger the city of New York. [Variety]

The acting comeback trail for former California Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a bumpy one marred by a scandal (which seems to have been forgotten), an attempt at a completely self-indulgent cartoon, but mostly just a dearth of solid projects worthy of bringing the lumbering talent back to the screen. One project has been shaping up quite nicely, with writer-director David Ayer (“Training Day,” “End of Watch”) behind the camera of police thriller (shocker) “Breacher.” Previously known as “Ten,” the film will follow 10 DEA agents who are marked for death following a heist during an drug enforcement operation. The production recently added Sam Worthington in an undisclosed role, and now has two more recognizable faces to add to the mix.

One wonders where the career of Sam Worthington would be without the massive "Avatar" franchise hanging both behind him, and ahead of him. Certainly as the central character in James Cameron's film (and upcoming sequels, whenever they happen), it has allowed a lot of doors to remain open, even if his solo ventures in films like "Man On A Ledge" or "Texas Killing Fields" didn't exactly pan out. And even as the lead in the 'Titans' sequel, the selling point is less his name, than the promise of old timey dudes fighting. But we can't argue his desire to keep mixing things up ("Last Night" is a bit underrated) and his latest will at least afford him the opportunity to talk "The Terminator" with the man who started it all.

Sam Worthington has kinda fallen off the map after breaking out in "Avatar," with a few indies ("The Debt," "Man On A Ledge") and the whole 'Clash Of The Titans' thing not exactly raising his profile -- though the latter probably bought him a new house or two. He does have a '70s surfing-drama, "Drift," on the way, but it looks like he's now getting behind a project closer to home, signing up to co-produce and possibly star in a cable miniseries depicting the WWI Battle Of Gallipoli that teamed Australia, New Zealand and British forces to capture Istanbul.

The surfing world hasn't seen much love since Kathryn Bigelow's "Point Break," with most pics since then merely excuses to get good-looking actors in swimsuits. There does seem to be one film on the horizon that aims to be different though, the surfing-based action-drama "Drift" starring Sam Worthington, Xavier Samuel and Myles Pollard. A handful of images from the film have arrived, and while there may not be much skin, there is a lot of Worthington hair.

So a couple of years ago, they remade “Clash Of The Titans.” Do you remember that? No? Well, it was pretty successful. Box Office Mojo says it made about $500 million. There were some special effects. It was in 3D. Gods, monsters, that sort of thing. Seems like a can’t miss thing. Apparently Danny Huston was in it. Well, they’ve made a sequel, believe it or not. Does it match up to the last film? Not sure. It seems this has gone from a forgettable movie to a forgettable franchise.

Previously set up as a teaming between two action staples in F. Gary Gray and Sam Worthington, the gestating adaptation of the comic book "The Last Days Of American Crime" is getting a makeover. Anthony Mandler is now taking on the project as his feature directorial debut, and it appears that former producer/star Worthington is no longer attached.

With movie projects dying out left and right, it only makes sense that some aborted ideas would be resurrected. Hence, "Dracula Year Zero," a dopily titled period piece about Prince Vlad, the noble-but-doomed hero who later became known as Vlad the Impaler, and later Blacula Dracula. Originally, Sam Worthington was set to star for director Alex Proyas. However, the "Dark City" helmer abandoned the film to take on the now-dead "Paradise Lost," ostensibly taking Worthington with him, and setting the stage for newbie director Gary Shore to adopt the project from a new script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
