Exhibiting immense technique, incredibly moody, tense atmospheres and meticulously crafted aesthetics, the dark crime thriller, “Texas Killing Fields,” demonstrates that director Ami Canaan Mann has inherited some serious skills from her famous filmmaking father Michael Mann.

The most surprising pick in the line-up of the Venice Film Festival was undoubtedly "Texas Killing Fields." The latest attempt from "Avatar" star Sam Worthington to return to non-tentpole territory, following the tepidly received "Last Night" and the long-delayed "The Debt," is a based-in-fact thriller revolving around a series of unsolved murders in League City, Texas, where 21 women were killed or disappeared since 1971, and marks the big-screen coming out party of Ami Canaan Mann, daughter of "Heat" director Michael Mann, who makes her directorial debut with the film.

"Avatar" made lots of money. The "Avatar" sequels will make lots and lots of money. Fox likes money, so no surprise they want to keep the James Cameron gravy train rolling.

Looks like Sam Worthington is really gunning to corner the market for leading actors of sci-fi films. On top of his continued involvement in James Cameron's "Avatar" trilogy and a film adaptation of little known British sci-fi action hero Dan Dare, the Australian thespian is now set to lead an upcoming sci-fi actioner scribed by Aaron Guzkowski, the writer of the Black-listed and highly-buzzed script "Prisoners."

F. Gary Gray has had a bit of a bumpy ride in finding his next film after "Law Abiding Citizen." Last year he was on board to direct the video game adaptation "Kane & Lynch" with Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx before that project ran into development hell, and earlier this year he was shortlisted for "G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes" (with that job going to Jon Chu) but it looks like he's landed on something new.

While it boasts a strong, marquee-named cast and some decent performances, Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes and French actor/director Guillaume Canet ("Tell No One," Marion Cotillard's baby daddy) Iranian-American screenwriter Massy Tadjedin's directorial debut, "Last Night," is an unconvincing portrait of unhappiness and marital disenfranchisement. A largely hollow couples-in-crisis infidelity drama, the picture lacks any romantic or sexual electricity, and doesn't possess many glimmers of substantive sparks. Characters go through the motions, but rarely do they echo in any resonant manner. While "Last Night" attempts to document the collapse of a marriage during one evening and the occurrences and issues that lead up to such an unfortunate event, it simply leaves one yearning for much, much more.

'Eastern Promises' Scribe Steven Knight Rewrote Script, Gemma Arterton Nowhere To Be SeenIt's almost exactly a year since "Clash of the Titans" opened, overcoming some tough competition, a beyond-shoddy 3D conversion and terrible reviews to pick up a hugely impressive half-billion dollars worldwide. While filming has been underway for a few weeks in the U.K. on the yet-to-be-officially-titled sequel ("Wrath of the Titans" has been bandied about, but never confirmed), Warner Bros has sent out a press release to officially announce the start of principle photography, and it's confirmed a few cast members, as well as giving the first detailed description of the plot.

While Sam Worthington does get some flack around these parts for not being much of a presence in the big, expensive blockbusters that orbit around him, we'll give him credit for following up his "Avatar" success with some smaller, more interesting choices. The relationship drama "Last Night," the thriller "Man On A Ledge," the crime drama "The Fields" and the assassin pic "The Debt" are all waiting in the wings for the actor and he's signed on for another film, and no, it doesn't involve having blue skin.
