Miss Julie
It basically goes like this: if you put Jessica Chastain in something, we're going to watch. The actress has made the most of her breakout role in Terrence Malick's "The Tree Of Life" to work with auteurs like John Hillcoat, Katherine Bigelow, Jeff Nichols, Christopher Nolan, Guillermo Del Toro and more. And she's added another big name to her CV with "Miss Julie."

Decoding Annie Parker
A serious subject deserves serious treatment, and you'd think that "Decoding Annie Parker"—based on the true story of Mary Claire King, a geneticist who discovered a gene linked to breast cancer—would perhaps play things with a bit of gravitas. Instead, the music alone in this trailer seems like it belongs in an ad for frozen yogurt.

It looks like Hollywood loves Gillian Flynn, and fans of the author have a lot to look forward to in 2014. Adaptations of two of her books are on the way, with David Fincher tackling "Gone Girl" and "Sarah's Key" helmer Gilles Paquet-Brenner taking on "Dark Places." And the latter is rounding out its already pretty stellar cast as it gears up to start rolling in front of cameras.

So, remember last month when it was revealed that Scarlett Johansson and Chris Pratt were also part of the cast of Spike Jonze's "Her"? It turns out one of those additions was to fill in for other actors who were bounced from the movie...

Haters to the back. We called this one. Or at least the Jessica Chastain part because, well, she basically said as much already. During a press conference for "Mama" reporters asked what was next for the "Zero Dark Thirty" actress. "It hasn't been announced but it might be a Strindberg thing. It hasn't been announced yet," she said. Being that many of us understand what that means, we asked, does that mean the adaptation of "Miss Julie" that Ingmar Bergman's muse Liv Ullmann was scheduled to direct? And yes, Chastain essentially confirmed with a physical gesture (much beyond the goofy face of a Matthew Vaughn character actor mind you; and that didn't pan out).

The year was 1998, and the movie was "Wild Things." The trashy sexploitation movie wasn't exactly the best reviewed film of the year, but thanks to some girl-on-girl action, a menage a trois and enough double entendres for a singles mixer, it became a cult favorite, spawning a number of direct-to-DVD sequels. So why has director John McNaughton not made any features since 2001's forgotten comedy "Speaking Of Sex"? (Maybe we just answered our own question). While his return behind the camera won't be heralded with the same acclaim or anticipation as Lynne Ramsay's or Terrence Malick's, at least two excellent actors are eager to see if he's still got it.

"Cosmopolis," an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s typically provocative novel of the same name, is the first feature film since 1999's "eXistenZ" that filmmaker David Cronenberg has directed and scripted. This in part explains why "Cosmopolis" is such a triumph: it’s both an exceptional adaptation and a remarkable work unto itself.

So, will "Cosmopolis" be the freaky return to form that David Cronenberg's fans have been waiting for? Or will it be this year's "Southland Tales" at the Cannes Film Festival? In about a week we'll find out. Until then, here are some more images from the film to get you primed.

As far as switcheroos go, director Spike Jonze can't really complain as his upcoming untitled effort has lost one hot young actress, only to be replaced by another.
